Last season the Green Archers failed to enter the Final Four, with then head coach Juno Sauler at the helm the Green Archers faced a lot of challenges in the pre season, the first one was their top Center player Arnold Van Opstal opted not to use his final year, and then one of their ace guard Kib Montalbo got injured in the pre season, and the biggest problem that La Salle faced last season was
the ineligibility of Ben Mbala to play last season due to a violation in the residency rule.
Facing all these challenges brought the Green Archers down to a 6-8 record falling out of the final four and being tied with the Red Warriors in the fifth-sixth place last season. But coming in the pre season the Green Archers showed their might parading top caliber recruits like Ben Mbala showed that they are ready for battle.
In the UAAP press conference held last August 30, seven out of the eight teams picked La Salle as the team to beat and could be the top team to take the plum this season.
This season 79 the Green Archers welcomes the service of former Letran champion coach Aldin Ayo as their newest head coach, coming with him in the team are notable players in high school basketball such as Aljun Melecio, Ricci RIvero, Juztine Baltazar, and Mark Dyke.
A lot of veterans are also coming back for La Salle this season starting off with Team Captain Jeron Teng that is playing for his final year in the UAAP, Teng averages 18.15 points per game, 6.38 rebounds per game, and 3.54 assists per game, another is Prince Rivero averaging 10.69ppg and 8.15rpg,
UAAP Season 79 Rookie of the Year, Joshua Caracut is also in the line up and he is expected to team up with another ace guard Thomas Torres, the two Green Archers averages 9.73ppg and 8.92ppg respectively. with a deeper and more experienced bench Jeron Teng and the rest of the Green Archers are ready to reclaim the crown for season 79.
The Green Archers will face the FEU Tamaraws this coming Spetember 7, 4pm at the Mall of Asia Arena.
