It’s a promising start for Philippine Indigenous cinema this year as a Palawán-Filipino filmmaker will serve as an advisor for the NATIVe – A Journey into Indigenous Cinema special series and Kidlat Tahimik's debut film will have a screening at NATIVe in Berlinale.

Auraeus Solito, also known as Kanakan-Balintagos, is one of the Berlinale NATIVe Advisors who will discuss Indigenous cinema with filmmakers and audiences. His film Busong will be shown at the special series.

Auraeus Solito is thrilled on the international recognition for Philippine Indigenous cinema. He wrote on a Facebook post, “Just amazing that in 2011, Busong (Palawan Fate) premiered at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight, and 8 years later, it screens in another A-list festival, the Berlinale.”

Making the event even more special is the Philippines' National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik who will also showcase his 1977 film Mababangong Bangungot (Perfumed Nightmare) under Berlinale NATIVe.

Kevin Belingon clashes with Bibiano Fernandes for the third time in One: A New Era in Japan

KEVIN BELINGON AND BIBIANO FERNANDES TRILOGY BOUT ADDED TO ONE: A NEW ERA

28 January 2019 – Tokyo, Japan: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), has just announced an additional match for ONE: A NEW ERA, which takes place Sunday, 31 March at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. Reigning and undisputed ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of the Philippines is set to defend his World Title against former titleholder Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes of Brazil in a trilogy bout.

Ticket information for ONE: A NEW ERA is available at www.onefc.com and on LINE Ticket at https://ticket.line.me/sp/ONEChampionship, as well as Kyodo Tokyo, Ticket Pia, Lawson Ticket, and E-plus.

Belingon and Fernandes first met in January 2016, when the Brazilian made quick work of the Filipino, whom he finished via first-round submission. Belingon was unable to showcase much of his striking, as it was easily nullified by Fernandes’ vaunted grappling.

From there, Fernandes continued to establish himself as the most dominant ONE World Champion in history with eight successful title defenses. Belingon, on the other hand, worked his way back up to contention, winning six straight bouts in exciting fashion to earn another shot at the ONE Bantamweight World Title.

Belingon captured the ONE Bantamweight World Championship with a scintillating split decision victory over Fernandes last November at ONE: HEART OF THE LION in Singapore. It was a close match-up, one that saw Belingon’s elite striking take center stage as he overcame Fernandes’ world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In the end, two of the three judges agreed that Belingon had done just enough to win the contest.

Now, “The Silencer” and “The Flash” will meet in the ONE cage for the third time to finally settle the score.

In the main event of ONE: A NEW ERA, reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines is set to defend his World Title against Japanese mixed martial arts legend Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki.

In addition, reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan of China will defend her belt against ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee of Singapore. ONE Middleweight World Champion Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang of Myanmar will also defend his World Title against Ken Hasegawa of Japan.

Also seeing action on the card is Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, who takes on Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu in a quarter-final bout of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix, while Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez faces dangerous Russian adversary Timofey Nastyukhin in a quarter-final of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix.

“The Boobay and Tekla Show” premieres on Sunday Primetime of GMA

For long-time comedian Boobay, he said that he is thankful for the overwhelming support of their fans and he offers this program to them.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa GMA kasi nakita nila yung chemistry namin ni Tekla as comedy duo. Pero para sa akin, fans ang may kagagawan kung bakit kami mapapanood sa telebisyon. Kung hindi dahil sa suporta nila—sa libu-libong likes at views na binibigay nila sa amin sa bawat episode ng show namin, hindi kami mabibigyan ng chance ng GMA. Kaya maraming salamat talaga, para sa kanila ito,” he said.

On the other hand, Tekla looks at comedy as a serious thing so he promises to exert more effort in putting a smile on people’s faces.

“Yung nararamdaman ko is tuwa and at the same time, challenging din ito para sa amin ni Boobay kasi mabigat na responsibilidad ang comedy. Kung sa iba siguro pagpapatawa lang yun, pero para sa amin, seryosong bagay ito. Pero mas nangingibabaw yung feeling na lumevel up na kami kasi dati sa online lang kami nakikita, ngayon sa national television na. Buong mundo na ang makakanuod sa amin so pinapangako namin na mag-e-exert pa kami ng more effort and ideas,” he said.

Review: Born Beautiful

Born Beautiful

Starring: Martin Del Rosario

Director: Perci Intalan

Genre: Comedy

Spoiler Alert!

Born Beautiful follows the story of Barbs Cordero (Martin), the BFF of Die Beautiful’s Trisha Echevarria (Paolo Ballesteros), the story tackles the life of Barbs after Trisha’s sudden death that made him confused if he still was the effeminate Barbs or will he go back to his original self as Bobby.

Troubled Bobby thought returning to his old self will make him okay, but he was wrong he ended up going back to her old self as Barbs, meeting her two lovers, Michael Angelo (Aki) and her first love Gregory (Kiko), things get more complicated as the love triangle became complex with the entry of Yumi (Chai Fonacier) that will make everything go round in Barbs life.

_______________________________

First of all I will warn you again that this review might have some spoilers along the way so if you aren’t fond of spoilers leave now.

This sequel is far from the Die Beautiful we saw from 2016 the dark comedy is gone, the heavy scenes were over this time as Born Beautiful celebrates the triumph of a life that was lived and continuously living on what she dreamt of and what she wanted to have and that is to be loved.

Born Beautiful is braver and bolder than Die Beautiful I must say, it was somewhat brutally honest at times and vulgar when it comes to language but I guess that’s how it goes with our language, there were scenes that might be too “Vulgar” to people who aren’t used to hearing such terms and words but believe me that’s how it goes.

Another sensitive issue that Born tackled is the issue of “Polyamory”, in cased you don’t know what Polyamory is here’s the definition of it “Polyamory (from Greek πολύ poly, "many, several", and Latin amor, "love") is the practice of, or desire for, intimate relationships with more than one partner, with the consent of all partners involved. It has been described as "consensual, ethical, and responsible non-monogamy". There’s that question raised if the movie is promoting the issue or just raising it for everyone to know that there’s such thing that exists and happening in our society.

When I watched the movie it was really funny that you’ll laugh out loud, the Barbs in Born Beautiful was a different one, Martin Del Rosario owned the character he made it far different from the first one, it was a brave move for his part and he was able to pull out a great performance as the new Barbs Cordero, there were scenes that you will not imagine him doing but he was able to do it.

The support cast were also hilariously great, Lou Veloso gets the loudest laugh from the crowd with his remarkable scenes, Kiko Matos was so wild in his scenes with Barbs, the outrageous delivery of Chai Fonacier almost made it X but I love it haha, VJ Mendoza’s short stint was a remarkable character, and Aki Blanco was the Bomb! Who would’ve thought that with his innocent looking face and boy next door charm did what he had done in this movie.

Overall, Born Beautiful is a must watch movie, it was funny, and when I say funny this is not your typical comedy movie, the vulgarity and profanity made it more natural, very relatable and engaging.

Put on your best sense of humor, it is a celebration of being brave to dare to live, love, and dream.
