#MWC2019: Hover Your Hands Over The LG G8

Over the weekend another Korean tech giant has unveiled their newest product line, the LG G8 and it's not just the G8 they also got the V50 and a G8s, but we'll just tackle the G8 Thinq.

Last month it was confirmed that the Philippine Mobile arm of LG already shut down, leaving LG fans relying to the gray market for this new flagship device, but anyway is the G8 buzz worthy or will it end up just like other struggling LG devices in the market.

The LG G8 Thinq features a 6.1 inches AMOLED touchscreen with a 19.5:9 ratio and yes it is still sporting the infamous notch that houses some sensors and the dual 8 megapixel front facing camera.

The G8 operates on Android 9.0 and runs on Qualcomm's newest top of the line Snapdragon 855 chipset for a superior performance and it also comes with a 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage.

A dual camera set up remained into the G8, a 12 megapixel standard lens and a 16 megapixel ultrawide camera that has always been found in LG.

LG has put on some interesting features on the G8, the first one is the Vibrating OLED tech or the Crystal Sound OLED which allows the device to ditch off the speaker and earpiece hole instead the phone will emit a vibration sound just like in the original Mi Mix, the second one is the Hand ID which is basically a face ID that uses the hand, how this one work? The sensor detects the blood flow and your veins in your hands, you look like you are about to cast a spell using your phone.

The G8 packs a good 3500 mAh battery, it comes with wireless charging capability and , it comes in three colors, the Carmine Red, Aurora Black, and Moroccan Blue.

#MWC2019: Celebrate 10 years of Android on Sony with the Xperia 1.

It has been 10 years since the first Sony android phone came out, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and to celebrate this milestone the Japanese brand decides to launch a new line of smartphone with the Xperia 1, the first ever smartphone with a 6.5 inches 4k OLED display with a taller 21:9 aspect ratio, all first in the smartphone market.

The Xperia 1 is packed with the newest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 6GB of RAM and either 64/128GB of memory, it runs on Android 9.0 out of the box.

A new iteration of camera comes with the Xperia 1 as they gave up the usual 19/21 megapixel camera found on older flagship devices as it adapt the triple camera set up a first for Sony, the triple camera features three 12 megapixel cameras, one wide angle with OIS, the second is a Telephoto with 2x optical zoom, and the last is an ultrawide lens. It also comes with an 8 megapixel wide angle for front facing camera.

A 3330 mAh battery powers the Xperia 1, wireless charging is also adapted in this phone.

#MWC2019: Huawei's Foldable Mate X,

The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain has been the much awaited event by geeks and tech enthusiast as the event is the launching pad of different tech companies that are about to launch their newest products and services. We've already seen the launch of Samsung's newest Galaxy S series in S10 and the first foldable phone in the Samsung Fold and Nokia's first penta lens smartphone the Nokia 9.

First, let's talk about the newest trend of Foldable devices, aside from Samsung, there were two other company that launched their own line of foldies in the MWC, these are two Chinese brands Huawei and Oppo, but we'll focus more on Huawei's foldie the Mate X.

The Mate X features a foldable  8 inches AMOLED screen, when folded the screen turns into a 6.6 inch phone with an additional usable rear screen at the back. Just like the other Mate's in Huawei's stable the Mate X also packs a powerful camera as it features three camera lens, one of which is a 40 megapixel wide angle camera, the next one is an ultrawide 16 megapixel camera, and an 8 megapixel telephoto lens all of which are Leica optics. (The set up kinda resembles of that in the S10)

A Kirin 980 chipset operates the Mate X, it is powered by a  4500 mAh of battery, and it also comes with an 8GB of RAM and a 512GB internal storage, and it runs on Android 9.0 under the EMUI 9.1. This is also Huawei's first take on the 5G technology, the download speed of this device could go up to 4 GBPS.

Priced at around $2800 or approximately Php150,000 this phone is definitely not an affordable smartphone beating out Samsung Fold's $1800. The Mate X is set to come out next month so stay tuned if Huawei Philippines will release this one here in the country.

#MWC2019 HMD Global Announces Penta Lens Nokia 9, Marks Return of PureView Technology

After months of rumors, speculations, and leaks, finally HMD Global has reveal the much awaited first Penta Lens Cameraphone in the market today, the Nokia 9 Pureview. Yeap, you red it right, the Pureview Technology is making a comeback to the Nokia Line after years of being side lined after the Lumia line of the then Nokia faltered down.

So okay let's go with what is in the Nokia 9, first we talk about the hardware and software. The Nokia 9 Pureview packs a 5.99 inch P-OLED screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio without a notch yeap the Nokia 9 skips the notch to gave way to its very beautiful display, the phone is also IP67 certified for Water and Dust Resistance.

The Nokia 9 is powered by last years' Snapdragon 845 chipset, with 6GB of RAM and fixed 128GB of internal memory, sadly they also skipped a microSD card slot for expansion. As we know Nokia is also known for their reliable software support and yes the Nokia 9 is included on that as it runs on Android One program with Pie already working on the device.

A 3320mAh Battery is packed with the Nokia 9, including the Wireless Charging feature that made the phone an all Gorilla Glass phone with a metal frame. The phone also features an under display fingerprint scanner.

We are done with the software and hardware, now let's look into what this phone specializes in which is the Camera. The Nokia 9 is a partnership of HMD Global and the Camera company LIGHT (If you remember that L16 compact camera with 16 different lenses? they made those). So okay we'll break down the lenses on the next paragraph.

The Nokia 9 contains five 12 megapixel cameras positioned like a Lotus Pod (Trypophobia is triggered haha jk), although the cameras got the same megapixel they got different purpose.

The five cameras of the Nokia 9 features three Monochrome sensors and two RGB sensors all are Zeiss optic lens, as far as I know the Monochrome sensors are there to give more depth information of the subject in the photos that were captured this will allow you to change the blur in your portrait photos and will give more dynamic range and details specially in low light situation.

I haven't seen yet the specifications regarding how the Nokia 9 records video, but the phone has a 20 megapixel front facing camera. (Will update once I get a hand on this device when it goes out).

The Nokia 9 is priced at $699 or atleast Php 37000 to Php 40000, HMD doesn't consider this as their newest flagship, but instead they treat this one as a special limited edition device. Aside from the Nokia 9, HMD also releases several smartphones such as the Nokia 1 Plus, 3.2, 4.2, and the Nokia 210.

This is the most promising phone of 2019 and I am excited to get my hands on this device, btw check out these awesome shots taken by the Nokia 9.

Kevin Belingon seeks redemption for Team Lakay as he fights Bibiano Fernandez

Kevin Belingon Looks to Beat Bibiano Fernandes to Redeem Team Lakay

Filipino firebrand Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon is dedicating his ONE Bantamweight World Title defense against rival Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes on 31 March at ONE: A NEW ERA to his teammates and fans of Team Lakay.

The Baguio City-based martial arts gym started 2019 out on the wrong foot when both Joshua Pacio and Geje Eustaquio lost their World Titles in close encounters earlier this year.

It was difficult for Belingon to see his team down, so when ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced that he would become the fourth World Champion to defend his title in Japan, Belingon was exhilarated.

Alongside ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, who competes against Shinya Aoki in the main event of ONE: A NEW ERA, the two Team Lakay brothers are looking to boost their team’s morale.

“There’s a lot of pressure for the team this 2019,” Belingon said.

“We just lost two belts this year, so it is up to us [Eduard Folayang] to relieve some of that pressure.”

Both Pacio and Eustaquio’s heartbreaking setbacks were a huge blow to Team Lakay, who had an exceptional 2018. However, the experience has made Belingon even more determined to successfully defend his World Title for both his team and his country.

“Me and kuya Edward are determined to defend our World Titles so that we can go back home as champions,” Belingon said.

“We are going to do this for Team Lakay and the Philippines.”

It will be easier said than done, as Belingon faces a very hungry former titleholder in Fernandes, who is intent on getting the title back. The Baguio City-native will reserve his prediction for the contest, but mentioned that he will avoid committing the same mistakes he and his team made in the past, even in his title-winning performance last November.

"Bibiano Fernandes is the toughest opponent of my career, and surely I am the same for him. I don't expect this third fight to be easy, that is why I am preparing hard in training,” said Belingon.

“I will try my best. I can't predict how the fight will go, but I will try to finish it this time.”

Belingon right now is highly motivated and focused on his upcoming World Title defense, knowing that he has his teammates and the entire Philippines cheering him on. Although he feels pressure, Belingon thrives in it and is using it as a springboard to what he thinks will be his best performance yet.

“We just need to convert that pressure into focus to make sure we are successful in our respective title defenses,” Belingon said.

“With the help of Coach Mark, our teammates and the support of our fans there it is not impossible for us.”

Belingon has waited for so long and has worked so hard to become a World Champion. He vows to give the performance of his life to keep the golden strap around his waist.
“I want to stay as a champion and I would make sure that I will do everything I can to keep it that way,” Belingon concluded.

Jeremy Miado Aims To Sustain Winning Momentum At ONE: CALL TO GREATNESS

Jeremy Miado Aims To Sustain Winning Momentum At ONE: CALL TO GREATNESS

Fresh from one of his biggest wins as a mixed martial artist, Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado feels that he is at the highest point of his professional career.

Miado scored a highlight-reel victory in November 2018 after knocking out Peng Xue Wen of China in the second round of their three-round strawweight encounter at ONE: CONQUEST OF CHAMPIONS in Manila, Philippines.

The Filipino hard-hitter admitted that the adjustments and changes that he made have played a major role in his recent success inside the ONE Championship cage.

“Mentally and physically, I feel that I’m stronger than ever,” he said. “I had enough time to prepare for my last match against Peng, and it helped me a lot.”

“I started to acknowledge my weaknesses and then worked on them. I went to different gyms to develop my skills and even traveled abroad to train.”

"The Jaguar" was tenacious from the very first bell and showcased marked improvements after he successfully defended against the Chinese Wrestling Silver Medalist's takedown attempts.

He threw all of his punches and kicks with authority, and never showed any signs of losing steam all throughout the contest.

“It was worth it, especially that I had the chance to improve on my strengths and skills which was evident in my victory over Peng,” Miado stated.

“Not being overconfident, but I feel that I’m a different athlete now.”

After ending his 2018 on a high note, Miado pointed out that his scintillating triumph over Peng is just the beginning of more positive things to come.

“Strawweight is one of the deepest divisions in ONE Championship and there are so many great guys all wanting to get to the top,” he asserted.

“I know that I still have a long way ahead of me, but I have to keep winning so I can stay in the mix.”

Miado is set to return to action this Friday, 22 February as he will look to make it two in a row against former ONE Strawweight World Champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke when they tangle once again at ONE: CALL TO GREATNESS, which takes place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Both men initially crossed paths in March 2018 at ONE: IRON WILL, where the heavy-handed Filipino striker knocked out the Thai legend just 81 seconds into their match-up.

It took just one right hand from Miado to end the evening for Dejdamrong, but with the quick win comes the doubters.

Miado will leave no stone unturned in proving that his victory over Dejdamrong nearly a year ago was not a fluke.

"My knockout victory over Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke proved that anything can happen in mixed martial arts. It also proved my ability to deliver a spectacular finish,” he declared.

“I aim to do just that again in Singapore.”
