Willie Nepomuceno, the King of Impressionism, and Nonoy Zuñiga, Pop Icon Headline “Music and Laughter” at the Theatre at Solaire this July

Live show aficionados will get a kick and a rush of nostalgia on July 27 8pm at the Theatre at Solaire when Grand Leisure Corporation brings Willie Nepomuceno and Nonoy Zuñiga together in “Music and Laughter.”
Two of the most formidable names in their respective fields of entertainment, the Man with the Many Faces and Voices Willie Nepomuceno and Pop icon and OPM hitmaker Nonoy Zuñiga have done shows together outside of the country but “Music and Laughter” marks the first time that Nepomuceno and Zuñiga will headline a concert together in Manila.
“Come to think of it, we've done shows together outside of Manila and we've crossed paths a number of times at the airport but with different destinations,” shares Nepomuceno who has performed before at the Eclipse Lounge also inside Solaire. “I am both excited and nervous about performing at the Theatre at Solaire.”
Zuñiga has done two previous shows at the Theatre at Solaire but with other artists. “This time I am excited to do a back-to-back show with ace impressionist, Willie Nep.”
Being the pioneer in the field of mimicry in the Philippines, Nepomuceno surprisingly finds Zuñiga, primarily a singer, “a natural humorist.” “His (Nonoy’s) songs are easily ‘singable’ that can appeal to all ages because the themes are universal. I particularly fancy his ‘I'll Never Ever Say Goodbye’ because everyone somehow passes through that sentimental episode in life, no matter how corny it may seem.”
Nepomuceno reminds us of a grand time when impressionists took their work seriously, painstakingly working on the characters they take on stage. “I really work hard at my craft, almost to perfection.”
In “Music and Laughter,” Nepomuceno showcases once more his unique brand of impressionism that has kept audiences packed in all his previous performances through a legendary career in entertainment. “My repertoire will consist of a blend of foreign celebrities and some local ones but this time, I'm veering away from the political satire which my audience has come to know me for---as a timely respite from the irritable summer heat of the season as well.”
Zuñiga welcomes the collaboration with Nepomuceno because he has always been a big fan of the latter. “Willie Nep is very professional in his ways and makes you feel at home performing with him. His impressions of Presidents Marcos, Ramos, and Erap (Estrada) are inimitable.”
Zuñiga is, hands down, one of the foremost Filipino balladeers of all time with a string of unforgettable hits, among them “Never Ever Say Goodbye,” “Kumusta Ka?” “Doon Lang,” “Love Without Time,” and “Fragments of Forever.” Never the kind to rest on his laurels, Zuñiga has just released his first digital single in support of VisPop or Visayan Pop; the song is called “Pero Atik Ra,” a duet with Jolianne Salvado.
As Willie Nepomuceno himself puts it, “Music and Laughter” is a show not to be missed because it will offer “pleasant entertainment and engaging humor.” Music and laughter are a magical combination that allows us to dream, think of the good times, and hope for better tomorrows.

This show is brought to you by Grand Leisure Corporation, tickets to “Music and Laughter” are available through Ticketworld or call 891-9999

Red Bull Reign Gears for Philippine Return

This June, Red Bull’s signature basketball tournament makes its return to the Philippines! Red Bull Reign is about scoring. A high-endurance, offense-driven 3x3 basketball tournament that invites the world’s top ballers to battle it out for the chance to compete at the World Finals in Washington, DC, USA. Red Bull Reign is the only open international 3x3 basketball in the world. The rules are simple: the team that scores the most overall points in each round will advance until only one team remains.

Red Bull Reign made its official debut in the Philippines last year. Eight teams squared off during the Philippine Finals at the Nagtahan Bridge Court, Pasig River, in Manila, on Saturday, May 27th, 2017. A series of exciting, back-to-back round-robin matches took place that afternoon and showcased various styles on the street court. Qualifying teams included Team Santa Rosa, the Bull Squad, Balandra Squad, and G3 Apparel, which consisted of Eric Tai and previous Red Bull King of the Rock Philippine Representative, Willie Miller.

The Bull Squad took home the victory after defeating Team Santa Rosa in the finals with a score of 27 to 20. The team consisted of Filipino-Canadian PBA hopefuls, Clay Crellin and Glenn GravengardKitt Paolo Balmori, and Team Captain, Obinna Ezeike. The win enabled them to represent the Philippines at the World Finals in Washington DCUSA.

“We were hungry”, said Gravengard. “We wanted it more.”

In addition, the tournament proved to be a success with the local barangay who had hosted the first-annual Red Bull Reign. Pre-event activities included a group clean-up of the Pasig River as well as the creation of a youth-oriented mural by Red Bull Doodle Art finalists, Manuel “Meow Meow” Liwanag and Rojan Elmo Barcelon.

The up-coming, second annual Red Bull Reign will be under the supervision of tournament director, Vince Hizon, and sports consultant, Al Delos Reyes. It promises to be one of the biggest 3x3 basketball tournaments of the year and a celebration of streetball culture. It is open to players ages 16 and above to submit their teams of three (plus one reserve). Each teams must be 50% Filipino and need to have their passports and the potential to travel to the US!

With four games taking place across several countries this summer, the 2018 Red Bull Reign promises to be the most exciting edition yet!

Innovation Never Stops As Vivo Introduces Breakthrough Technologies

The competition in the mobile industry can be very stiff with new technology coming out one right after the next. But global smartphone brand Vivo has outplayed its competitors with innovations that made a mark in the mobile industry.

1. Over 20-MP front cameras
The world has been obsessed with taking selfies to document one’s everyday life or the most cherished moments. But for years, not all smartphone brands took a special interest in developing their front cameras. Vivo, working hard to understand its patrons, revolutionized the selfie game when it came out with a 20-megapixel dual front camera in V5 Plus. It is the first smartphone brand to do so, and now others are trying hard to catch up.

C:\Users\lenovo\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.Word\AI Potrait Bokeh2.jpg
Taking better selfies and photos has never been easier with Vivo phones.

It was then followed up by the whopping 24-MP front camera in V7, V7+, and the V9, proving that Vivo never stops pushing the limits in perfecting the features that matter most to its patrons. In fact, Vivo V7+ was hailed as the best selfie phone in 2017 by many tech blogs and sites.

2. Bezel-less screens
Aside from its selfie-centric developments, Vivo is also a leader in enhancing every patron’s screen display experience.

C:\Users\lenovo\AppData\Local\Temp\WeChat Files\486347282428405540.jpg
The future is not too far away with Vivo’s concept smartphone, APEX™ FullView™, with a nearly 100% screen-to-body ratio.

Vivo at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain last February revealed a concept phone called the APEX™ FullView™. It features a typical 5.99-inch screen, but its screen-to-body ratio nearly reaches 100%. This proves that Vivo is committed to producing a genuine bezel-less smartphone in the market.

In fact, its newest flagship smartphone, the V9, is getting closer to Vivo’s ultimate goal—it boasts of a 90% screen-to-body ratio with its 6.3-inch FullView™ Display.

3. In-display fingerprint scanner
These innovative developments may be enough for some but Vivo does not want to be the second best. It is also a pioneer in developing ultramodern yet convenient unlocking methods. Vivo has recently revealed that it has advanced the fingerprint scanning method by making the technology available on a screen. It debuted the first ready-to-produce in-display fingerprint scanning solution at the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 in Las Vegas last January.

C:\Users\lenovo\AppData\Local\Temp\WeChat Files\614557681467584703.jpg
Another Vivo’s first: The in-display fingerprint scanning technology is ready for commercial distribution worldwide.

Vivo is also the first ever smartphone brand that dedicated a Hi-Fi quality audio chip in its models, making it the first brand that gave proper attention to its handsets’ sound quality.

This is quite a lot of achievements for Vivo, especially in an industry that is unforgiving to those slow to innovate. In fact, these developments Vivo introduced have earned the smartphone brand a spot among the trailblazers. And, it seems like the global smartphone company will not slow down on its pursuit of perfection anytime soon.

Fitness leaders, trainers convene to spur fitness growth and professionalism at FitCon MNL 2018

Fitness enthusiasts and professionals from around the Philippines and South East Asia came to FitCon MNL 2018 – a three-day fitness industry event held at Green Sun Makati from May 18 to 20.
The fitness convention – the biggest in the country to date – brought 16 industry leaders in fitness and wellness from around the globe. Through more than 60 interactive workshops, attendees learned about the latest in sport science, nutrition and client interaction to help them build successful careers in health and wellness.
Fitness icons and experts who shared their expertise with participants were: Merrithew™ Lead Instructor Trainer for STOTT PILATES® and Total Barre® Vivian Zapanta, author and diet coach to the stars Nadine Tengco, fitness educator Glenn Ang of Singapore, director of Australian Strength Performance Benjamin Siong, international performance coach Mark Laws, master trainer of Body Art Garnet Suidy, Zumba Education Specialist Prince Paltu-Ob, head of PILOXING Asia Connie Colson and COO of Powerhouse Fitness Club Tony Howett, among others.
Among the highlights of the convention was an Activity Zone that was open to the public where guests could join group exercise classes conducted by Master Trainers for BOSU®, TriggerPoint, Zumba, STOTT PILATES®, Hedstrom Fitness and bodyART.
An exhibit area surrounding the zone introduced experts and enthusiasts to some of the best health and fitness brands currently in the Philippine market.
Now on its second year, the event was conceptualized and organized by Dynamic Duo Inc., a partnership between sports science professionals Rica Rodriguez and Divine Masinsin that aims to provide fitness education for individuals to become leaders in the field of fitness and sports training and empower coaches to achieve their maximum potential in their respective fields.
When asked what the impetus was to start FitCon MNL, Rica Rodriguez and Divine Masinsin shared that working in Dubai taught them the value of continuing education in the fitness industry. “We realized that there were a lot of other Filipino trainers coming in with 10, even 20 years of experience. But they often lacked certifications, and without that, they couldn’t be paid as much as others in the field. So we started FitCon MNL to help make fitness professionals from the Philippines globally competitive.”
Several delegates who come from Anytime Fitness – Mall of Asia attended the first run of the convention in 2017. When asked why they decided to attend this year’s FitCon MNL, they unanimously said, “We get to learn so much through this event. With speakers like Ben Siong [the director of Australia Strength Performance], we get updated on the latest in fitness, and that helps us with our jobs. It’s definitely helped give our branch an edge.”
Dan Duran, Executive Vice President of PTA Global, a global leadership and personal training development company from Denver, Colorado said he returned to the Philippines to speak at FitCon MNL because “It’s truly a pleasure to be back at FitCon MNL. Once again, it’s a very well-run convention full of hungry and passionate fitness professionals.” Commenting on FitCon MNL’s attendees, he said, “These trainers have it figured out; the more you learn the more you earn, and the better you can help people.”
Fitcon MNL 2018 is envisioned to be an annual event to spur the growth of fitness professionalism, fitness education and the industry.

Riva Quenery Unleashes Her Dance Prowess In Rivlog Live

Fiery performances, fun banter, good memories and a whole bunch of inspiration are just a few of the things that former GirlTrends member Riva Quenery promises to showcase on her one-night-only birthday concert next month.

In celebration of her 20th birthday, Riva finally ticks off a major goal on her and her supporters’ bucketlist this coming May 27 through her first-ever concert titled RiVlog Live! at the SM Skydome.
Kasi para rin ito yun sa mga sumusuporta sakin na kapag pinanood nila ang concert ko para rin silang nanonood ng vlogs ko ng live,” she explained.

Riva has been quite a figure in the local vlogging scene with her naturally quirky and intimately personal vlog called RiVlog.  Her vlog, which she proudly runs solo, likewise earned its own stripe last year.

RiVlog received YouTube’s popular Silver Play Button award, a recognition that was given to vlogs that have amassed a total of 100,000 subscribers. But, now, roughly a year later, Riva’s subscribers have more than doubled for she now has more than 340,000 followers on the said video-sharing platform.

Sobrang kinakabahan ako kasi sanay ako na magpe-perform lang as guest, pero this time, event ko talaga ito. It’s all about me. Dito ko i-sho-showcase kung ano ang kaya kong ibigay sa mga tao”, said Riva.

But, more than showing her snappy dance moves and some of her singing skills, Riva’s birthday concert would actually cater to the needs of less fortunate kids at the Tahanang Mapagkalinga ni Madre Rita.

“Every birthday ko, I make sure na tumutulong ako sa mga street children.  Parang naging advocacy ko na siya. Parang naisip ko rin na, what better way to celebrate it than to make my supporters happy and share it with less fortunate kids,”

Joining her on the show are her close friends composed of her close friends in the business Krissha Viaje and Sammie Rimando, as well as Hashtags member Zeus Collins and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano star Awra Briguela at Maris Racal.

“Pinaka-excited ako sa mga bagong genre na gagawin ko, kasi may mga gagawin ako sa concert na hindi ko talaga nagagawa before. Excited ako to explore new things para sa mga taong sumusuporta sakin kasi matagal na nila itong hinihingi sakin,”” said Riva, who hopes to encourage more performers of her age to just keep dreaming and working hard for it because they can eventually come true—just like what is about to happen to her.

Dancing has always been Riva’s passion, as seen on the countless dance covers on her vlog, and the fact that she was tapped to be part of It’s Showtime’s GirlTrends. One of her biggest dancing feats happened just last month, after becoming part of the local hip-hop dance group, Power Impact. Riva and the dance crew’s rigorous trainings and long hours eventually paid off as they placed third under the Team Division at the World of Dance Manila 2018.  She is also set to compete for World Dance Competition na gaganapin sa Los Angeles California.

Produced by Hermie Carreon, directed by Marvin Caldito, catch Riva Quenery on her one-night only-concert at the SMSkydome this coming May 27. For tickets, just call SM tickets at 470-2222 or visit www.smtickets.com

Review: So Connected

So Connected

Starring: Janella Salvador, Jameson Blake

Director: Jason Paul Laxamana

Genre: Romance, Drama

So Connected tells the story of two strangers, Karter and Trisha who were connected by a lost phone and an app called "Store Box".

Karter is a budding graphic designer turned online show host, through her sister Karter discovered that there's an app on his phone that stores all the files from his lost phone, from there he meets the girl who got his phone, Trisha.

Trisha is a hard working lass who works as a waitress in a panciteria near the office of Karter, she always take photos of everything and anything she does day by day and all were uploaded to Karter's Store Box.

For every update Karter slowly falls in love with Trisha, but things gets complicated as the world online was far more different in the real world as both characters struggled to make things the way they want it to be just like in the cyberspace.

Will Karter and Trisha get so connected with love and acceptance? or will they be disconnected by fear of  rejection?
__________________________________

The story of the movie first and foremost is simple yet very engaging, relatable, and timely. I like how the movie raises the issue of cyberbullying, specially to those people who took videos or photos of other people and upload it online for that person to be bullied. I also liked how they presented the issue in such way that it tells the audiences that there's always a wider picture that we don't see behind those camera lenses, that not all videos that we see online is conclusive and we don't have the right to judge others just because they did something wrong on the video.

Direk JPL made the flow of the story smooth and easy to connect, the cinematography as well was really beautiful, the twists and revelations were all done masterfully. I also love the choice of  songs in the movie, chill and easy listening.

When it comes to the acting department, Janella Salvador really brought her acting prowess up as the character of Trisha was really far from the characters we used to see from Janella, she was deglamourized it was a different side of Janella that you will see, a bolder, more open, and a more "masa" Janella.

Jameson Blake on the other hand was undeniably charming, you can't resist the kilig that Jameson emits in every scene, acting wise this guy is one of the most versatile actors of this generation.

Jameson and Janella's team up might be new, but their chemistry on screen comes out naturally. They got this fresh and light attack on their love teams, their not the type that you will scream your lungs out of kilig instead they will leave you in awe on how effortless their kilig scenes were done.

_________________________________

Over all the movie was really good, from the production, to cinematography, the story, and even in the acting department, your Php250 and time will not be wasted, this is a good vibes type of movie that will teach you how to be responsible on what you post online.

Lastly, let's give Janella and Jameson's team up a chance, they both showed a different side of them in this movie and I guess supporting this is far more better than hating right?

9/10

Calling red as a head-turner is an understatement. No color has the same impact as red. Red represents a myriad of emotions and occasions from both ends of the spectrum. But global smartphone brand Vivo owns the color by highlighting its elegance that transcends trends.

Vivo has released its flagship smartphone, the V9, in Velvet Red.

Janella Salvador and Jameson Blake’s magic, undeniable chemistry in So Connected

Hollywood have featured celebrity team-ups, who were not couples in real life, but their movies still became blockbuster hits.

This is the case with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in Notting Hill (1999), and Julia and Richard Gere in Pretty Woman (1990) and Runaway Bride (1999).

These team-ups never had romantic involvement, but their chemistry on the big screen drew moviegoers and made their movies huge earners in the box-office.

In Regal Films, Inc. upcoming movie So Connected, Jameson Blake and Janella Salvador are pairing up for the first time.

It did not take them long to realize their chemistry after they met on the set to start filming. It is proven that it does not have to be real life couple to have the magic onscreen just like what Janella and Jameson in So Connected.

Audience will surely be charmed on the flow of the story from how Karter Calma (Jameson Blake) pursues the Trisha Biscocho (Janella Salvador) and the sequences that follow are genuine. This is a romantic story of real people and very relatable. Audience will get hooked without getting distracted because the main leads are not superficial in portraying their roles. There is magic between Janella Salvador and Jameson Blake onscreen that will ride you to their journey of falling in love.

In the movie, Jameson plays Karter (Jameson), a video editor for a web channel whose phone got stolen by a crook.

By twist of fate, the phone falls into the hands of Trisha (Janella), an independent young woman trying to support her family.

Through modern technology, Karter gets a glimpse of Trisha’s life in videos and photos uploaded in the online world and finds himself slowly falling for her and then resolves to find her.

Will he be able to convince Trisha that they have a genuine connection and win her heart?

A must-watch scene in the movie is when Karter and Trisha do a duet together in the carinderia where Trisha is employed as a server.

In an interview, Jameson was more vocal about the undeniable chemistry between him and Janella.

He says, “I met her sa set. Nakita ko na may chemistry, yung feeling na di kailangan mag-exert ng effort, kusang lumalabas, that’s what I noticed.”

As early as 2015, Jameson has been consistent in naming Janella as his celebrity crush in various interviews.

Asked how his first meeting with Janella was, Jameson describes, “More than I expected. She was really approachable and nice to talk to. Nagkwentuhan kami. I got along with her.”

He recounts that he exerted effort to reach out to his crush after meeting.

“We talked about stuff we’re both interested in.

“We just eventually started talking.

“And I was happy that she’s actually nice.”

On her part, Janella knew that it would not be hard to establish rapport with her new leading man.

The Kapamilya actress enthuses that working with Jameson in So Connected was a breeze.

“He’s very nice, actually. I have no problem working with him at all because sobrang light lang ng aura niya.

“Sobrang good vibes lang and masaya siya ka-work,” Janella expressed.

However, their team-up did not come without challenges.

But the young actress is up to the challenge to make his team-up with Jameson work, regardless if they are not a real-life couple.

“It’s always nice to try something new and I think it’s good growth din as an actress.

“Whatever personal it doesn’t necessarily have to be the same for work,” she explains.

Furthermore, Jameson’s gut feel was validated when the production people saw that the two have chemistry while they were shooting the film.

“They believe that we could actually pull off the movie that they like. It’s a great experience,” Jameson beams.
