Resurgence: The FEU Lady Tamaraws Quest For 30

It has been almost a decade since we last saw the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in the finals of the UAAP. despite being the winning-est team in the league the core of the Lady Tamaraws went down after they lost to the De La Salle Lady Spikers in Season 71 and after the Queen Tamaraw Rachel Anne Daquis left due to graduation leaving the thrown vacant.

The absence of a leader inside the team was greatly felt in season 72, after Maica Morada left the team leaving the team on the hands of younger players like Shaira Gonzales, April Jose, and Cherry Mae Vivas. In season 72, Cherry Mae Vivas was named as the Season's Most Valuable Player but the valiant efforts of Vivas only produced FEU a 6-8 record finishing at #5 that is their worst record for decades.

In season 73, FEU surprised the Volleyball Community after they revamped their line up, removing almost all of the players in the roster of Season 72 and replacing them with an almost all rookie team led by Gyzel Sy, Mayjorie Roxas, Christine Agno, Rosemarie Vargas and Kath Magsumbol, that year also marks the return of Maica Morada after her absence from last season. The record of the Lady Tamaraws worsen as they dropped to 5-9 win-loss record finishing season 73 in 6th place.

The rebuilding of the Lady Tamaraws starts to pay off in Season 74 as they finally return in the final four though they were defeated by UST in the step ladder play offs. Wenneth Eulalio returns in season 74 along with new rookies like Samantha Dawson, Winonah Bagang, and Mary Rose Baniel who replaced Kath Magsumbol and other senior players, this season also marked the last year of Maica Morada in the UAAP.

What everyone thought of a slowly but surely rebuilding of the Lady Tamaraws went back to zero as the team part ways from their long time mentor Coach Nes Pamilar, He was replaced by former FEU Mentor Coach Kid Santos, going back to scratch FEU manages to get a 6-8 record ending the season at 6th. Season 75 introduces Remy Palma in the roster of the Lady Tams.

A new era enters for FEU in Season 76 as they put to helm former UST Head Coach and a former Tamaraw Spiker Shaq Delos Santos as their newest head coach, Bernadeth Pons along with Charm Simborio and the towering Gen Casugod were introduced in this season. Season 76 were no good for the Lady Tams as they finished in 5th place after losing to Adamson in the Play offs for the fourth spot.

In season 77 the Lady Tamaraws were able to charge back in the final four after they outlasted the UST Tigresses in the play offs, though they lost to NU Lady Bulldogs in their step ladder match up. Christine Agno was named as the best digger that year. Toni Rose Basas was introduced that year.

Entering season 78 with a complete and solid core line up except for Gyzel Sy who was replaced by Yna Papa, the Lady Tamaraws almost had the prize that they were eyeing after they beat La Salle and erased their twice to beat advantage in their final four battle, but the lack of experience became a huge disadvantage for them as they bowed out of contention finishing third, their highest finish since 2009. That year also marked the final year of Tin Agno in the UAAP.

The Lady Tamaraws fell short again in Season 79, finishing fourth in the tournament after losing to the Ateneo Lady Eagles in their final four match up. Gyzel Sy made a huge comeback playing her final year along with Remy Palma, also the FEU bid adieu to Coach Shaq Delos Santos who resigned after three years of being with the team.

Finally, after 9 long years the Lady Tamaraws are finally given another shot to get their 30th crown and bring back the crown that they rightfully own as they are the winning-est team in the UAAP. But road wasn't easy for the Lady Tamaraws, having a new head coach in Coach George Pascua and the purported return of Rosemarie Vargas due to an injury, FEU hurdled all of this to charge back into the Finals facing a familiar team, the DLSU Lady Spikers.

It will be experience versus determination this Season 80. the Lady Spikers has the championship experience, solid roster, and the best coach plus they got a huge number of fans, but FEU went through the roughest road to reach the top and I bet there's no turning back for the Lady Tams with the solid leadership of Bernadeth Pons.

Get infected with ‘The Cure’ beginning April 30 on GMA Telebabad

True to its mission of showcasing compelling and world-class entertainment, GMA Network brings its loyal Kapuso viewers another ground-breaking concept with its upcoming primetime series, The Cure, beginning April 30.

The Cure’s premise is set on an experimental drug that kills cancer cells. However, its side effect causes a deeper problem—the mutation of a dangerous and highly contagious virus called the Monkey Virus Disease or MVD wherein anyone infected begins to have seizures and becomes rabid and violent. Soon, law and order is non-existent as the disease spreads not only in the city, but also throughout the entire country. Now more than ever, it is crucial to find the very thing that would save everyone—a cure.

The series is under the helm of esteemed director Mark A. Reyes who is excited for the viewers to witness a new genre in primetime. “It’s very exciting, a story of survival—survival of humans, survival of family, survival of two people in love, it’s a bigger picture. It’s fresh, it’s new, and the whole essence of a suspense-drama is here. I knew from the start it was going to be big,” he shares. “I’m approaching this cinematically; I’m using film cameras for our taping." To make the series more interesting, Direk Mark said they incorporated a gorilla to the storyline and used Animatronics.

Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado and multi-talented actor Tom Rodriguez headline the series as Charity and Gregory Salvador, a happily married couple. Charity used to be a registered nurse, but she left her job to focus on her husband and only daughter, Hope. Greg is the family provider, working as a Clinical Research Associate in an international pharmaceutical laboratory. They both live a peaceful life, until Greg’s mother is diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Playing equally vital roles are respected and multi-awarded TV and movie actress Jaclyn Jose as Dr. Evangeline Lazaro, head of the Research and Development Team in the same pharmaceutical company Greg works at and the one who discovered the experimental drug that created a nationwide epidemic; homegrown Kapuso actor Mark Herras as Darius, a one-track mind man who is ruthless, strong, skilled in physical combat, and relentless in getting what he wants; award-winning Kapuso actressLJ Reyes as Katrina, the company’s Clinical Research Associate and Greg’s friend from college who is secretly in love with him; and with the special participation of versatile Kapuso actor Ken Chan as Josh, the only son of Dr. Lazaro. He is a top doctor who would rather serve the poor than private hospitals.

Completing the powerhouse ensemble are Jay Manalo as Fernan, the pharmaceutical’s fearless lead security officer who forms a survivor colony in the midst of the epidemic; Irma Adlawan as Agnes, Greg’s mother and the first patient to be infected by MVD; Ronnie Henares as Eduardo, a selfish and cruel board member of the pharmaceutical company; Glenda Garcia as Lorna, Charity’s mother who never really cared for her until they reunite during the outbreak; Diva Montelaba as Suzy, a video blogger who disseminated the news about the stolen experimental drug which mutates into a horrifying virus; Arra San Agustin as Anna, a smart and dedicated doctor like her boyfriend, Josh; Leanne Bautista as Hope, Charity and Greg’s jolly and intelligent daughter.

Set in a world succumbing to the worst, The Cure is an action-suspense drama which shows that our daily battles are worth fighting, as long as we are fighting for our loved ones and our family.

Behind the series is the creative team composed of creative director Roy Iglesias, creative head RJ Nuevas, creative consultant Denoy Navarro Punio, headwriter Richard Cruz, writers Luningning Ribay, Glaiza Ramirez and Lobert Villela and brainstormers Tina Velasco and Pam Miras.

The Cure is created by the GMA Entertainment Content Group under the supervision of Senior Vice President for ECG Lilybeth G. Rasonable, Vice President for Drama Redgie A. Magno, Assistant Vice President for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, Senior Program Manager Cathy O. Perez and Executive Producer Winnie Reyes.

Don’t miss The Cure’s premiere this April 30 on GMA Telebabad.

Kapuso viewers abroad can also catch The Cure via GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV. To check the program schedule for each territory, visit their official website at www.gmapinoytv.com

Kevin Belingon Continues Winning Streak After Dominating Andrew Leone Via A Second Round TKO

The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), delivered another amazing spectacle at the Mall of Asia Arena, delighting the packed crowd with a display of world-class martial arts action. Manila played host to ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, featuring the absolute best in local and international martial arts talent. Also making its highly-anticipated debut is the all-new five rope ring, which served as the proving ground for both ONE Super Series and ONE Championship bouts. In the main event, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of Baguio City, Philippines defeated American Andrew Leone by technical knockout. In the co-main event of the blockbuster card, Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan earned a unanimous decision victory over Jo Nattawut.

In the main event of the evening, Team Lakay’s Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon dazzled once again with another ferocious display of striking, obliterating opponent Andrew Leone of the United States within two rounds. Action was fierce and relentless from start to finish, and began with Belingon swarming Leone from the sound of the opening bell. As the American tried desperately to stave off attacks which came from all directions, Belingon continued to put on the pressure. In the second round, Belingon connected on a thunderous spinning side kick that sent Leone to the canvas, where he followed and unloaded an unending volley of strikes to earn the technical knockout victory and the GoDaddy KO of the Night.

In the co-main event of ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, international kickboxing superstar Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan made a spectacular ONE Championship debut, outworking former Lion Fight World Champion “Smokin’” Jo Nattawut of Thailand. In an offensive clinic against Nattawut, Petrosyan tore apart his opponent with the surgical precision he has become known for, putting together dynamic punch combinations in addition to his pinpoint accurate kicks. Answering every strike that Nattawut unleashed, Petrosyan outworked his opponent to pick up a unanimous decision win in his first bout for ONE Super Series.

The stunning career resurgence of former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario as a lightweight division mainstay continued at ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, where he edged out perennial contender Adrian Pang after three rounds. Banario showcased his pinpoint striking early on, peppering Pang with his patented left hook and razor-sharp kicks. Although Pang boldly traded strikes with his Filipino foe and found success in landing hard body shots, Banario showed superiority in ring generalship, creating spaces to clobber his opponent with long jabs and snapping kicks to the body. As Pang stepped on the gas pedal and pressed the action in the third round, Banario’s intelligent movement notched him a split decision.

Making his ONE Super Series debut, legendary Nong-O Gaiyanghadao of Thailand took on former two-time WBC Muay Thai World Champion Fabio Pinca of Lyon, France in a spirited Muay Thai contest featuring plenty of action and excitement. The two traded their best shots in three solid rounds of action, but it was Gaiyanghadao who showcased superior technique, plastering Pinca with thudding left kicks to the midsection and scoring with his patented sweeps. In the end, all three judges ruled the bout in favor of Gaiyanghadao, earning the former four-time Lumpinee Stadium champion a unanimous decision victory.

Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov made quick work of up-and-coming American featherweight contender Emilio Urrutia, winning by way of first-round submission, placing himself back on the winning track. Returning to his stellar and fearsome form as a highly-touted competitor, Gafurov showcased his world-class grappling once again, effortlessly putting Urrutia to sleep courtesy of a wrenching arm triangle choke.

Rekindling the intense rivalry between South Korea and Japan, former world title challenger Dae Hwan Kim came out on top against Japanese legend Masakazu Imanari, winning by unanimous decision. Driven to victory against a grappling wizard like Imanari, Kim intelligently avoided putting himself at risk in his opponent’s submission wheelhouse and exerted his best effort to dictate the action from the stand-up. Although Imanari found a way to bring matters to the ground, Kim made sure that he had sturdy top control, with the leverage to rain down quick but solid ground-and-pound. After three gruelling rounds, all judges at ringside saw the bout in favor of Kim.

Cosmo Alexandre left a lasting impression in his ONE Super Series debut, defeating Elliot Compton in their Muay Thai clash by way of second round knockout. The long-limbed Brazilian dynamo aced his maiden ONE Super Series assignment with flying colors, bringing down Compton with a shattering uppercut and a follow-up knee strike to the body. Reeling in excruciating pain, Compton failed to answer the count of ten, compelling the referee to wave off the bout, declaring Alexandre the victor via knockout in the second round.

In a bout that lasted just under two minutes, ONE Championship debutants Akihiro “Superjap” Fujisawa and Kaji “Alpha” Ebin walked out to the ring looking to engage. At the opening bell, Ebin marched forward wanting to trade strikes, but it was Fujisawa who would score on a single-leg takedown. Not long after, Ebin began complaining about a dislocated shoulder. At that point, referee Yuji Shimada called a halt to the contest after Ebin could no longer continue due to injury, which awarded Fujisawa with the submission victory.

In the first ONE Super Series bout of the evening, Regian Eersel impressively marched to a unanimous decision victory over Brad Riddell in a three-round kickboxing contest. Banking on his height and length, Eersel effortlessly pummeled Riddell with lashing strikes, including a solid knee to the midsection that dropped the Auckland, New Zealand native to the mat in the second round. Eersel closed out the final round of the match on a strong note, limiting Riddell’s offense with his counter strikes. In the end, Eersel was awarded a unanimous decision victory.

After falling short in her last outing, Gina Iniong of Team Lakay redeemed herself in front of a passionate hometown crowd, claiming a unanimous decision victory over former world title contender Jenny Huang. Iniong savored every strike that she threw at Huang as the latter gallantly traded shots with the highly-decorated Filipina wushu practitioner. Huang tried to change the complexion of the contest in the second round as she resorted to her grappling expertise, but Iniong surprisingly overpowered the submission specialist on the mat. In the final round, Iniong continued to wear out Huang on the ground, working her way towards a hard-earned decision victory.

Kicking off ONE: HEROES OF HONOR was a riveting three-round strawweight showdown between Indonesian standout Adrian Mattheis and China’s Lan Ming Qiang. Setting up a promising tone for the evening, both men went back-and-forth from bell to bell, exchanging thunderous strikes in the stand-up department while shooting for powerful takedowns. So Connected

Regal Films connects you this summer with Janella Salvador and Jameson Blake as they star for the very first time in "So Connected", written and directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, coming in cinemas this May 23!

So Connected tells the story of Karter and Trisha, two different people connected by serendipity, a phone and an application.

Trisha is a go getter and hard working lass who despite being needy she still manages to keep a positive outlook in life. Meanwhile, Karter is the boy next door type of guy who lost his phone that ended up in the hands of Trisha.

The story progresses as Karter started to fall for Trisha despite them not knowing each other personally, he fell in love with her through seeing her photos and videos stored in the app. In the end will Karter gets the guts to tell Trisha everything he knows? or will their connection be disconnected with fear of rejection?
