#UAAPLXXIX Day 3: Subido Lead UST Past The Red Warriors, La Salle Dominates The Fighting Maroons


After three years of being on the sideline for UST, Renzo Subido finally breaks out of his shell to emerge as the newest go to guy of the Growling Tigers as he unleashes 26 big points to help UST escape past the UE Red Warriors 88-87.

The Growling Tigers started cold in the opening period as the Red Warriors took the opportunity to get a hot start to take an early 16-4 lead, though UST recovers in the latter part of the opening period to cut the lead of UE down to 16-24.

UST continues to struggle in the first half as their turnovers ballooned to 21 that gave the Red Warriors 18 easy points from turnovers, in the second period Subido started to smoke hot as he waxes off  11 points to help UST match UE's output in the second period at 23-all to end the first half 39-47.

In the second half the Growling Tigers started to growl back as they outscored UE in the third period 30-17 to finally take over the lead 69-64 at the end of the third.

The scoring romp of UST that is led by Subido extends in the final period as they were able to make their biggest lead of the game at 78-66 early in the fourth, the Red Warriors tried to tie the ball game, but the three point attempt of Edgar Charcos didn't go in instead only a two point basket by Emil Palma puts UE at 87-88 without any time left in the game.

Renzo Subido had his best UAAP career performance having 26 points, helping him are Jon Sheriff with 15 points and Marvin Lee with 14 points. On the side of UE, Nick Abanto and Edson Batiller both scored 15 points to top the scoring for the Red Warriors.

Ben Mbala proved to be the best foreign reinforcement in the UAAP this season as he poured in 30 points and 14 rebounds after La Salle dispatches the UP Fighting Maroons 89-71.

The game started off tight for both squads though La Salle was able to pull away in the latter part of the opening period to take a 31-19 lead in the second period. In the second period the Maroons were able to trim the lead of the Green Archers to finish the first half 34-43.

La Salle started the second half with a bang as they took an early run to extend their lead to 53-40 mid part of the third, UP struggled in the latter part of the quarter, giving La Salle the chance to pull away taking a 76-52 lead at the end of the third period.

The Green Archers are already in control of the game as they refuses to give any chance for UP to gain momentum or to make any runs as they finally sealed the game.

Aside from Ben Mbala, Abu Tratter and Jeron Teng added 12 points each, while Jollo Go added 11 points as La Salle makes it 2-0. On the side of UP, Paul Desiderio had 21 points to lead the Maroons in losing efforts, Jett Manuel added 12 points as UP goes down 2-0 early in the tournament.

The Lady Warriors of UE bounced back from their opening day loss after defeating the UST Tigresses 74-57, Love Sto Domingo led the Lady Warriors with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Unique Chan added 13 points. On the side of UST, Misaela Larosa top scored with 18 points.

The DLSU Lady Archers destroys the UP Lady Maroons 65-46 to make it 2-0, Bennette Revllosa led the Lady Archers with 13 points and Snow Penaranda added 10 points, while Antonia Wong and Lourdes Ordovez top scored for the Lady Maroons with 11 and 10 points respectively.
