#UAAPLXXIX Preview: Ateneo De Manila University


The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles were one of the top contender for the UAAP season 78 plum, with Kiefer Ravena graduating the pressure was on the side of the Blue Eagles to reclaim the title they last held back in 2012, but entering the finals was the goal the road to the final four was a bit rough for the Blue Eagles as they ended the elimination round with a 9-5 record finishing in third place facing the number two seed FEU Tamaraws.

In the semifinals the Blue Eagles looked like they are going to upset the runners up of season 77, but the upset ax was reversed when Mac Belo’s heroics shoot down the Blue Eagles and Kiefer Ravena’s dream of making it back to the finals.

Entering season 79 not only Kiefer Ravena’s services will be missed, but also Von Pessumal who graduated along with the Phenom, not only Ateneo losses their players via graduation they also lost several players due to academics like Jerie Pingoy who transferred to Adamson, Clint Doliguez to San Beda, and just few months back Hubert Cani and Arvin Tolentino transferred to FEU.

Not only did Ateneo lost in the pre season they also lost the service of theri head coach Bo Perasol who transferred to the other side of Katipunan, he is now replaced by Gilas 4.0 Head Coach Tab Baldwin. Baldwin will debut in the UAAP with a young squad led by Kiefer’s younger brother Thirdy Ravena who sat out of last season.

The Blue Eagles set to battle last seasons' runners up UST Growling Tigers this September 4, 4pm, at the Araneta Coliseum.
