#NCAA92 Juniors: 9/12/16


The Malayan Red Robins eliminates the Letran Squires 86-77. Though the Squires started the game strong taking a 27-21 lead in the first period, the Red Robins were able to bounce back in the second period, outscoring the Squires 25-16 to take over the lead 46-43 at the end of the first half.

The Squires were still able to fight in the third period as they were still able to take a slim lead to end the third period at 66-65, but in the final period the Red Robins were able to pull away as they were able to take a 21-11 output to outscore the Squires in the final quarter.

Jasper Salenga led the Red Robins with 27 points, followed by Romuel Junsay and Michael Enriquez with 12 and 9 points respectively. On the side of the Squires, Kobe Monje led his team with 16 points, Kurt Reyson added 13 points, while Miguel Villanueva and Keifer Cordero scored 12 points.

The Red Robins are now at 12-3 record placing them in third, while the Squires are down to 6-10 placing sixth.

The La Salle Greenhills Greenies stunned the second seed Arellano Braves 77-70. It was expected that this two squads will showcase a tight and down the wire game as both teams has the number one and two players in the tournament in Guilmer Dela Torre and Troy Mallillin.

The opening quarter features stiff competition between the two teams as they ended it tied at 19, going to the second period the Braves were able to score a couple more points to take a slight 35-32 advantage at the end of the first half.

In the second half the Greenies were able to keep the game close as they were able to score more in the third period to end it down by just a single point 49-50. Going to the final ten minutes of the game the Greenies were able to score the Braves 28-20.

Troy Mallillin led the Greenies with 20 points and 18 rebounds, Unique Naboa and Vincent David added 13 and 12 points. Guilmer Dela Torre led the Braves with 27 points, while Carlo Abadez had 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Greenies strengthen their grip in the final four as they go up 12-4, while the Braves are down to their second straight loss 13-3.

The San Beda Red Cubs strengthen their hold on the top spot after they beat the EAC Brigadiers 86-79.  The Brigadiers were off to a hot start in the opening period as they were able to top the Red Cubs 26-20, going to the second period the Red Cubs started to make a run to cut the lead of the Brigadiers to end the first half 41-44.

Entering the second half the Red Cubs shrugs off their cold start as they were able get their shooting in sync to outscore the Brigadiers and finally taking over the lead  at the end of the third 69-64. In the final period the scoring romp of San Beda continue as they kept their distance from the Brigadiers.

Four Red Cubs were able to score in double figures led by Joshua Tagala with 17 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Evan Nelle with 14 points, Carlo Obenza with 12 points, and Sam Abuhijleh with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

San Beda is steady at the number one spot with 15-1 record, while EAC goes down to 2-14.

The Lyceum Junior Pirates defeated the San Sebastian Staglets 86-74. Consistency was the key for the Junior Pirates in this victory as they were able to set the pace of the match having an early 25-21 lead in the opening period and even extending it up 48-40 at the end of the first half.

In the second half the Staglets offense struggled letting the Junior Pirates pull away in the third period taking 23-10 output Lyceum extends their lead up 71-50, in the final period the Junior Pirates had their biggest lead of the match at 25 though the Staglets were able to atleast cut the deficit down.

Mclaude Guadana continues to headline for the Junior Pirates having 22 points and 5 rebounds, Lyceum goes up 8-8 record. Meanwhile, Jerico Isidro led the Staglets with 15 points and 13 rebounds, San Sebastian goes down to 2-13.

Jielo Razon led the Perpetual Help Junior Altas to overcome the JRU Light Bombers 76-72, Razon had 21 points to push the Junior Altas to their 5th win for the season.

Though both teams are now out of the final four contention, they still went head on in this game with the Junior Altas were able to held on to their third quarter perfomance to over come the tight defense of the Light bombers.

Helping Jielo Razon is Justine Desquitado with 12 points and 8 rebounds, meanwhile Jairuz Torres had his career high 30 points for the Light Bombers, Toby Agustin added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Junior Altas is now at 5-11 record, while JRU dropped to 2-13.
