#UAAPLXXIX Day 8: UP Notch First Win at the Expense of the Red Warriors, Adamson Take Solo Second


The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons finally notch their first win for season 79 at the expense of the University of the East Red Warriors who went down to a 0-4.

It was a hard fought 75-71 victory for the Maroons after the Reds started the game with an early 15-4 lead, though UP were able to catch up and make a run trimming the lead of UE down to three at 19-16.

The Fighting Maroons opened the second period with 13-0 to take a 29-19 lead, but the Red Warriors were able to bounce back to tie the game at 29, the first half ended with UE taking a 37-34 lead. In the third period the Red Warriors were able to keep the gritty Maroons at bay, though UP was just within a striking distance UE was still able to end the third period with a 58-57 lead.

In the final period UE took an early 67-63 lead, but entering the final two minutes of the game a cold blooded three from Jarrell Lim gave the Maroons a 69-67 advantage that eventually gave the victory to UP.

Veteran Maroons Jett Manuel and Paul Desiderio led their team both having 17 points, while Mark Olayon and Edson Batiller led the Red Warriors scoring 15 and 14 points respectively.

The Adamson Falcons outlast the NU Bulldogs 64-51 to take the solo second spot with a 3-1 record. It was a low scoring game for both squad with the Falcons taking control of the game in the early part of it, taking a 17-13 lead. 
Going to the second period the the Falcons extends their lead up to a 21-14 lead, but the Bulldogs were able to trim the lead down to end the first half down by just a single point, 28-29. 
The Falcons though started the second half with a 6-0 run to get their lead up to 36-28, but the Bulldogs didn't let them pull away as they had their own run to end the third 40-42. 
In the final period the Bulldogs finally had the hand on the lead taking a 43-42 lead, but the Falcons were able to recover quick to retake and secured their lead for the win. 
It was a showdown between the two foreign reinforcements with Pape Sarr winning the game  with 13 points and 17 rebounds, while Alfred Aroga had 17 points and 13 rebounds.
