On the second day of the opening weekend of the 78th season of the UAAP held at the Mall of Asia Arena. In the 12 noon game the De La Salle Green Archers dealt the defending champions, National University Bulldogs an opening day loss 67-63.
The Green Archers held on to their defense in the first half only letting the struggling Bulldogs to score only 6 points at the end of the first quarter, DLSU continues to dictate the pace of the game as they maintain a 10 point deficit at the end of the first half 33-23.
Gelo Alolino tried to force a comeback for the Bulldogs late in the fourth quarter after cutting the lead of La Salle to 59-60 with over a minute remaining in the ball game, but the Green Archer's defense puts a stop to NU's run as they were able to get back to back baskets from Jason Perkins and Jeron Teng to secure the win for La Salle.
Jeron Teng led the Green Archers in scoring with 18 points, adding to that is Andrei Caracut's 13 points. Meanwhile Gelo Alolino and JJay Alejandro scored 16 and 15 points respectively for NU.

In the 4pm game, last years' runner up, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws proved to be this seasons' title contender after they dominated the Ateneo Blue Eagles 88-64.
The Tamaraws started off the game on a high note as Pogoy and Tolomia hits almost all of their shots out scoring Ateneo at the end of the first quarter 23-11, The struggle of the Blue Eagles continue as their blue chip rookies failed to help in the scoring department that drowned them to a huge 44-26 deficit at the end of the first half.
In the third quarter reigning MVP Kiefer Ravena poured in a couple of Three's to trim down the Tamaraws lead down, but Roger Pogoy and the rest of the Tams shooting is still hot as they were able to take it a 15 point lead over the Blue Eagles to the end of the third period at 64-49.
Roger Pogoy top scored for the Tamaraws with 19 points in this blow out win, meanwhile Kiefer Ravena carried the Blue Eagles in this game producing 25 points.
