#NCAA91 Day 35: San Beda Bounces Back, JRU Lives Another Day, LetranSurvives

It's a Do or Die Friday Triple Header of the 91st season of the NCAA at the San Juan Arena, as the six teams battling are the teams left vying for a spot in the final four.

In the first game San Beda halted the 6 game winning streak of Mapua as the Red Lions beats the Cardinals 75-65 to remain on top of the standings. 

The Red Lions started strong in the game out scoring Mapua to take an early 23-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, San Beda continue to extend their lead in the second period  36-16 with 3:40 left in the game, giving the Cardinals hard time to catch up, though they were able to trim down the lead to 15 points to end the first half 41-26.

In the start of the second half San Beda extends their lead by as much as 22 points but the Cardinals shooting started to get hot as they cut the lead of the Red Lions down to 10, 47-37, but again San Beda were able to maintain the lead to end the third 58-48. 

In the fourth quarter Mapua's hot shooting continues as they erased the double digit lead of the Red Lions to get close at 61-60 with 5 minutes left in the game, but San Beda easily recover to avoid the scare of Mapua to take their 12th victory sending the Cardinals down to 10-6. 

Five Red Lions finished in double digit output, but Art Dela Cruz top scored them with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Baser Amer played his best game of the season with 15 points for San Beda. On the other side Allwell Oraeme and Darell Menina combined 30 points for the Cardinals in losing efforts. 

San Beda's remaining game are against Arellano and Letran, while Mapua's last remaining game will be against EAC and CSB.

San Beda Red Lions 75: Dela Cruz 17, Amer 15, Tankoua 12, Tongco 12, Koga 10, Adeogun 7, Mocon 2. 

Mapua Cardinals 65: Oraeme 15, Menina 15, Nieles 10, Nimes 9, Brana 6, Serrano 4, Isit 2, Aguirre 2, Raflores 2. 

In the second game the JRU Heavy Bombers lives another day as they outlast the UPHSD Altas 62-60 to keep their final four hopes alive. 

The Altas dominated JRU in the first half of the game leading 38-26, but Veteran Heavy Bomber Paolo Pontejos gunned 16 out of his 19 points in the third quarter to help JRU get the lead at the end of the  third period 55-52. 

In the final period Perpetual Help weee able to get the lead back after a run early in the fourth, but JRU didn't give up as they were able to tie the game at 60-all, but Ervin Grospe sealed the win for the JRU Heavy Bombers as the Perps wasn't able to score anymore inside the last 2 minute mark. 

Paolo Pontejos exploded 19 points to lead the Heavy Bombers in their quest to return to the final four, meanwhile, Scottie Thompson had another Double-double performance of 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists for the Perps in losing efforts. 

JRU's remaining games will be against Lyceum and San Sebastian, while the Perpetual Help still has to battle San Sebastian and Letran.

Perpetual Help Altas 60: Dizon 14, Thompson 12, Akhuetie 9, Dagangon 7, Eze 6, Coronel 4, Gallardo 4, Oliveria 3. 

In the main match of the Friday triple header of the NCAA, the Letran Knights turns back the Arellano Chiefs 87-81 to regain the share of the top spot after losing back to back last week. 

Though Arellano started the game strong starting the game with a 13-21 lead in the first quarter, the Chiefs looks like they will pull an upset ax against the Letran as they continue to dominate the latter at the end of the first half 38-46. 

Entering the second half Letran showed some signs of life as they were able to cut the lead of The Chiefs to 63-69. In the fourth quarter Arellano were able to pull away early in the game to take a 76-65 lead with 6 minutes left in the game, but Rey Nambatac and Mark Cruz started a run for the Knights to cut the lead again to 79-76 entering the last 2 minute mark to finally grab the lead, at that point Letran didn't looked back anymore as they held on to their lead to turn back Arellano.

Rey Nambatac, Mark Cruz, and Kevin Racal scored 21, 20, ans 17 points respectively to power the comeback of Letran, meanwhile Jovanie Jalalon and Dioncé Holts combined 30 points for the Chiefs in losing efforts.

Letran is left to battle Perpetual Help and San Beda, while Arellano still has San Beda and EAC left.

Letran Knights 87: Nambatac 21, Cruz 20, Racal 17, Sollano 10, Calvo 9, Publico 4, Apreku 3, Luib 2, Balagasay 1. 

Arellano Chiefs 81: Holts 16, Jalalon 14, Enriquez 14, Zamora 12, Meca 8, Nicholls 6, Gumaru 5, Bangga 2, Salado 2, Cadavis 2. 

San Beda and Letran is tied at the #1 at 2 woth 12-4, Perpetual Help is at solo 3rd with 11-5, while JRU, Arellano and Mapua is in a three way tie for the number 4 spot with 10-6.
