The Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers continues their quest to return to the final four of the 91st season of the NCAA as they escape past the pesky College of Saint Benilde Blazers 73-69 in the first game of the Tuesday game day of the NCAA at the San Juan Arena.
It was a tight ball game between JRU and CSB ending the first quarter tied at 12, entering the second quarter the Blazers were able to get a 17-12 lead early in the period but JRU easily snatches it taking a 3 point lead ending the first half at 35-32.
In the second half the game intensifies as CSB not letting the Heavy Bomber pull away, even taking a 49-52 lead against JRU with 2:29 remaining in the third, but JRU regains the lead after an 8-0 run to end the third at 57-52.
In the fourth quarter the tit for tat battle of the two squads continue as the Blazers again regains the lead after a three by Jonathan Grey at 66-67, but JRU made another run again to take a 71-69 lead with few ticks left in the game but Bernabe Teodoro made a huge steal over CSB's Travis Jonson to seal the win for the Heavy Bombers.
Bernabe Teodoro and Paolo Pontejos combined 30 points to keep JRU's final four hopes alive, as Jonathan Grey's 34 point performance didn't help CSB to bounce back.

In the second game, the Mapua Cardinals extends their winning streak to five after they stunning the league leading Letran Knights 82-77.
Letran started the game strong leading the Cardinals 16-25 at the end of the first quarter, but the Cardinals made a huge surge in the second quarter after being down 31-18, Mapua takes a 5-24 run to take the lead at 36-42 at the end pf the first half.
Mapua continues to dominate the Knights their lead ballooned to 62-49 at the end of the third, Letran tried to get close with the Cardinals in the final quarter but it was already late as Mapua already on the brink of getting their 5th straight victory to keep their final four hopes alive.
Allwell Oraeme powered the Cardinals with a monster double-double 18 points and a tournament high 30 rebounds, adding to that is 16 points from the rookie John Nieles and 14 points from Justine Serrano. Meanwhile Mark Cruz, Kevin Racal and Rey Nambatac scored 17, 16, and 15 points for Letran in losing efforts.
