#UAAP78 Day 1: UP Edges UE, UST Beats Adamson.



In the opening game of the season, Host School, University of the Philippines Fighting Maroon defeated the young squad of the University of the East Red Warriors 62-55.

Though the game didn't start on a high note as the first quarter ended At 11-7 in favor of the Maroons, UP was able to command the pace of the game as UE struggles to find their rhythm inside the court, but still the young Red Warriors squad were able to keep the battle as close as possible.

The Red Warriors even threatens to make a comeback in the final period as they were able to trim down UP's 43-56 lead to 55-59 with 20.8 seconds left in the game, but Gelo Vito's three secured the win for the Fighting Maroons.

Gelo Vito top scored the Fighting Maroons with 11 points, while Rookie Edson Battiler led the Red Warriors with 17 points.

UP Fighting Maroons 62:

In the second game the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers survived a late run by the Adamson University Soaring Falcons 70-64. 
UST showed their maturity and experience early in the game as they shoot down the young Adamson squad early in the game with a huge 22-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Falcons took the challenge in the second quarter as they tamed the streaking Tigers only letting them score 6 points to trim the lead down to 28-25 at the end of the first half. 
In the second half, the Tigers maintain their lead keeping the Falcons behind 51-45 at the end of the third period, in the fourth quarter Adamson were able to get as close as 59-61 with less than two minutes remaining, but UST's veterans responds to make the lead back up to 64-67 with a few ticks left in the game. 
Veterans Ed Daquiaog  and Kevin Ferrer carried the tigers combining 52 points, only 5 tigers were able to score in the game, meanwhile Joseph Nallos and Dawn Ochea combined 30 points for the Falcons in losing efforts.
