#NCAA91 Day 28: Letran Gets Solo Lead, Perpetual Help Escapes To Tie At Third

Another impending upset was foiled by Mark Cruz as he carried the Letran Knights in their win against the College of Saint Benilde Blazers 79-69 in the Wednesday double header of NCAA season 91. 

CSB was off to a hot start in the first period as they led the Knights 22-13 at the end of the quarter, the hot shooting of the Blazers continued early in the second quarter with rookies Jayjay Domngo and Christian Fajarito scoring for CSB, but Letran slowly erasing the lead as they began to heat things up even tying the game at 31- all with 2:30 left in the second quarter and even getting the lead back after Kevin Racal shoots up a three to keep the Blazers behind in the third to make a 37-33 ball game with less than 2 minutes remaining but JayS Domingo scores 5 straight points to keep the game close at 40-39 at the end of the first half. 

In the second half the Blazers threaten to pull away late in the third quarter as they ballooned their lead to a 55-48 lead with two minutes remaining in the period, but the Knights were able to recover as they closed in at 56-54 to end the third period, In the fourth quarter Letran finally gets the lead back on them as the offense of  CSB gets cold as Mark Cruz scored 5 unanswered points to seal the win for the Knights.

Letran's veteran duo Mark Cruz and Kevin Racal scored 20 and 18 points respectively as the knights regain the solo lead in the standing, meanwhile rookie Jayjay Domingo and veteran Jonathan Grey combined 28 points for the CSB Blazers.

Letran Knights 79: Cruz 20, Racal 18, Luib 16, Sollano 9, Quinto 9, Nambatac 5, Apreku 2. 

CSB Blazers 69: Domingo JJ 14, Grey14, Ongteco 12, Saavedra 10, Nayve 6, Domingo JS 5, Jonson 3, Young 3, Fajarito 2. 

In the second game Bright Akhuetie foils San Beda's revenge over the Perpetual Help Altas as he scored a buzzer beater to sweep the Red Lions 88-86 in the elimination round.

Perpetual Help started slow in the game, giving San Beda the chance to dominate them in the first quarter with a 6-16 lead 3 minutes remaining in the first period, but the Altas were able to close the lead down to a 14-17 at the end of the first, entering the second quarter Perpetual Help shooting gets hot as they were able to grab the lead at 22-21 to start the quarter, meanwhile San Beda's hot shooting turned cold as they were outscored by the Altas to end the first half 39-35. 

In the third quarter the Perps were able to build a huge 10 point lead 47-37 early in the period, but the Red Lions were able to recover late in the third as they were able to end the quarter with only a single point deficit against the Altas 61-60 after Baser Amer shoots down a three.

In the final quarter San Beda's Ryusei Koga was able to tie the game at 73- all  and eventually getting a 79-81 advantage entering the last two minutes of the game, but Bright Akhuetie was able to tie the game at 81-all, Earl Thompson scored another basket for the Altas to get a 83-81 lead with less than a minute left but Baser Amer again knocks off a three to get the lead back to San Beda at 83-84 with 45 seconds left, 

In the last 5 seconds of the game Earl Thompson almost lost the ball that could cause an overtime, but Nestor Bantayan quickly picked up the ball with 2 seconds left and pass it to Bright Akhuetie to shoot it down just in time to steal the win for the Perpetual Help Altas. 

Bright Akhuetie scored 31 points for the Altas, meanwhile Ola Adeogun score 26 for the Red Lions

San Beda Red Lions 86: Adeogun 26, Dela Cruz 15, Mocon 12, Koga 11, Amer 10, Tankoua 8, Reyes 4.
