#UAAP78 Day 20: Adamson Stun La Salle, FEU Takes First Final Four Seat



In the first game of the Saturday matches of the UAAP, the Adamson University Falcons stun the De La Salle University 75-74 to take their second victory of the season.

It was a seesaw battle for both squads, exchanging early lead in the first period with La Salle getting the upper hand of the game to take a 19-16 lead at the end of the first. Coming in the second period La Salle now shows more power as they were able to take a 34-28 lead with 2:48 left in the first half, though the Falcons were able to trim down the lead, the Green Archers still were able to end the first half on top 37-34.

In the second half, The Green Archers looking to dominate Adamson in this game as they were able to end the third period with a huge 11 point advantage 59-48. In the fourth quarter La Salle was still in command of the game with a 64-50 lead with less than eight minutes left in the game, at that point Adamson starts to erase the lead of the Green Archers even tying the game at 68

La Salle could've sent the game into overtime, but Prince Rivero missed his second free throw and the defense of Adamson bugged Andrei Caracut's attempt to three in the final seconds of the game.

Pape Sarr again tops scored for the 2-8 Adamson with 23 points and 14 rebounds, adding to that is Joseph Nalos with 20 points. On the other side Prince Rivero and Jeron Teng combined 45 points for the Green Archers as they go down 5-5.

In the main match, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws escape past the University of the East Red Warriors 71-68.

It was a tight race to get to the top as both squads tried to out smart and out play each other, Though the Tamaraws were able to start the game on a high note as they led UE 13-9 with 4:18 remaining in the game the Red Warriors still were able to snatch the lead to end the first period 19-18.

Going in the second period FEU had a hard time getting the rhythm inside the court as they weren't UE's pesky defense continue to bug them, this also gave the opportunity for the Red Warriors to capitalize and take a 25-18 lead, but in the mid part of the period Achie Inigo poured in back to back threes to inch closer to UE at 28-30.

Tied at 34 entering the second half, the Red Warriors were able to take a 42-38 lead over FEU. Mac Belo and Reymar Jose made an 11-4 run as the Tamaraws were able to take the lead back at 49-46 late in the third, but the Red Warriors were able to counter the run of FEU as they were able to take the lead again to end the third at 55-53.

A neck and neck fourth period met between both squads as none of them refuses to surrender, but it was FEU's breaks in the game gave them an advantage over the Red Warriors as Roger Pogoy gave the Tamaraws a more comfortable 69-65 lead with 1:32 remaining in the game. Nick Abanto tried to get UE close at 69-67, but it was too late already as Achie Inigo sealed the game shooting the two charity baskets for FEU.

Even with Mike Tolomia going down in the third period, Mac Belo, Roger Pogoy, and Achie Inigo took charge for the Tamaraws as they scored big points to salvage the win for the FEU. The Tamaraws take the solo lead with 9-1 record and they are also the first team to secure a final four spot.

On the side of UE, Edson Batiller, Paul Varilla, and Edgar Charcos combined 33 points for the Red Warriors as they go down to 3-7.
