#UAAP78 Day 14: UST & FEU Ends First Round On Top.



In the last game of the first round elimination of the UAAP Season 78 at the Big Dome in Cubao, the UST Growling Tigers escape past the young UE Red Warriors Squad

The Growling Tigers showed their dominance early in the game capitalizing on the struggling UE offense to build a huge 26-12 advantage to end the first quarter in their favor, in the second quarter the Red Warriors tried to catch up with UST trimming the huge lead down to an 11 point margin at the end of the half 44-33.

In the Second Half the Red Warriors were able to catch up with UST as they were able to take the lead down to just 2 points 56-58 less than two minutes in the third period, but UST finds answer to the run of UE to keep the lead at the end of the third period 60-56. The Red Warriors almost grabbed the lead in the end game closing in the 71-74 with 46 seconds left in the game but the Foul Trouble and Ed Daquioag's unstoppable performance left them behind.

Speaking of Unstoppable Ed Daquioag, he produced 34 points for the tigers to maintain the 6-1 record at the end of the second round, meanwhile Paul Varilla carried the Red Warriors with 25 points in this 4th straight loss of UE to end the first round 2-5

In the second game, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws prevails over the National University Bulldogs in the rematch of last years finals 61-59 to end first round on top along with UST wit 6-1 record.

The Tamaraws were off to a slow start early in the first period trailing behind the National U 11-8 with less than a minute remaining, though a buzzer beater three by Roger Pogoy gave FEU a 13-11 lead at the end of the first period. In the second period the Bulldogs were able to make a run to take a 30-24 lead their biggest lead over FEU in this game, but the Tamaraws didn't let NU to end the first half with a huge lead ending the second quarter 29-34.

In the second half FEU manages to take the lead back with the help of Monbert Arong and Mike Tolomia to end the third period 45-40.In the final period the Tamaraws were able to extend their lead to 10 at 50-40 to kick off the last 10 minutes of action, but NU made their runs to trim the lead down to 5 45-50 with less than 7 minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs even get closer at 52-55 but Mike Tolomia was there to save the Tamaraws shooting a cold blooded three to extend the lead of FEU up to 58-52.

Leading the charge for FEU is Mike Tolomia scoring 19 points, 11 of those points were made in the second half, the Tamaraws shares the top spot with UST at the end of the first round with a 6-1 win-loss record. meanwhile Alfred Aroga top scored for NU with 17 points and 14 rebounds as the Defending Champions ends the first round outside the top four with 3-4 record.
