#NCAA91 Day 39: Mapua Barged In To The Final Four, San Beda Takes The Number One Spot

The Mapua Cardinals barged into the Final Four again after almost 5 years after they defeated and kicked out last year's runner up Arellano Chiefs out of the final four 93-75 in the Playoffs last Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Mapua showed dominance in the start of the game getting a 14-9 lead early in the opening period, but the Chiefs though started the game slow still they were able to trim down the lead of Mapua to a single point lead with 16-15 lead. In the second period Arellano were able to keep it close early in the second period, but Mapua started to pull away with less than two minutes left in the second half to end it at 49-33.

Second Half was a nightmare for Arellano, as the Cardinals shooting was on fire to make it a 69-51 ball game at the end of the third period. though in the fourth period the Chiefs were able to cut the lead down to 10, still Mapua's defense and offense were unstoppable as the Cardinals dominate Arellano in terms of rebounding and field goal.

Veteran Guard and former Rookie of the Year Josan Nimes lifts the Cardinals with 21 points, Allwell Oraeme contributed 31 huge rebounds for Mapua that is set to face JRU this coming Friday  to determine who will be number 3 and number 4, meanwhile Jovanie Jalalon's 37 points wasn't enough to keep the Chiefs hopes to return to the finals as they bowed out of the race along with Perpetual Help.

In the second Playoff game, the San Beda Red Lions finishes again on top for the 10th straight year after beating the Letran Knights 83-78.

It was a smooth sailing game for the Red Lions as they were able to show their dominance against their bitter rivals Letran, leading the Knights 17-12 at the end of the first period, and taking a huge 11 point advantage after finishing the first half of the game 41-30. Entering the second half San Beda extends their dominance even with the Knights threatening to make a run to keep the game closer still the Red Lions maintain their lead at 59-48.

In the fourth quarter what seems to be a smooth sailing game turns into a rough ride for San Beda as the Knights slowly erasing their lead down to just four points 65-61 with 5:18 left in the game, but the Red Lions were able to recover and make it another double digit deficit game 73-63 with 3 minutes remaining in the game, but Letran again made another run with a few ticks left in the game to tie the game at 78 with 23 seconds. It was the play of Ryusei Koga to Ola Adeogun that sealed the deal for San Beda  

Ola Adeogun top scored for the Red Lions with 21 points, adding to that is Jayvee Mocon's 16 points to put San Beda on top of the standings, meanwhile Mark Cruz and Kevin Racal scored 29 and 17 points respectively in this loss of the Knights.
