#UAAPLXXIX Juniors Basketball: 11/19/16


The Adamson Baby Falcons stunned the defending champions NU Bullpups after a dominant 80-67 victory. The Baby Falcons were off to a surprising start as they soared high in the opening quarter with a 17-0 start leaving the struggling Bullpups scoreless until the 3:52 mark, Adamson ends the first period with a controlling 28-8 lead.

In the second period the Bullpups manage to turn the tables around as they were able to take a 21-10 run in the quarter to cut the lead of Adamson down to a 38-29 lead at the end of the half.

The Bullpups continues to chase the Baby Falcons down in the second half, as NU successfully trimmed the deficit down to a 54-57 ball game, but Adamson going in to the final period were able to stop the streaking Bullpups to push their lead up again in the final minutes of the game.

Flo Serrano led the Baby Falcons with a 25 points and 10 rebounds performance, Gerry Abadiano and Jason Celis added 13 and 12 points respectively as Adamson remains undefeated in the league after three games.

Win Coyuca and John Lloyd Clemente topped the stats line for the Bullpups with 16 points each, Rhayan Amsali adds up 12 marker as NU takes their first loss after three games.

The DLSZ Junior Archers finally snapped out of their back to back setbacks after they defeated the UST Tiger cubs in a tight 64-58 win.

The Junior Archers were off to a hot start in the game taking a 20-11 lead in the opening quarter, though UST were able to get back in the game in the second period after they were able to cut the lead of Zobel down to a 26-32 advantage at the end of the half.

Going to the second half UST were successful in catching up with the Junior Archers as they were able to take the lead at 33-32 to start off the third period, the Tiger Cubs were able to extend their lead to a 46-31, but Zobel were able to still tie the game at 49 at the end of the third.

The Junior Archers were able to tame the growling Tiger Cubs in the final period as they were able to limit them with just 9 points to take their first win.

Astro Vista led the Junior Archers with 19 points, while Rob Mariano added 12 points for Zobel for them to move up 1-2. Meanwhile, the Tiger Cubs were led by Timothy Delacruz with 13 points, Vince Dolendo added 11 points and Marlon Navarro added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The FEU FERN Baby Tamaraws triumphs over  the Ateneo Blue Eaglets 77-73 in the third day of the Juniors Basketball tournament of UAAP Season 79 held at the Arena in San Juan.

The Baby Tamaraws were able to charge early in the game to go up 14-8 in the opening period. Going to the second period FEU continues to control the pace of the game as they push their advantage by 13, 33-20 midway of the quarter, but the Ateneo were able to cut the lead at 37-29 to end the first half.  

In the second half the Blue Eaglets continues to cut the lead of FEU down to 37-34, but the Baby Tamaraws were able to put a stop of the runs of Ateneo to extend their lead by 10 to end the third period up 56-46.

In the final period the Baby Tams continue to keep Ateneo at bay as they were able to charge their way to the win after they successfully prevent the Blue eaglets to make a comeback even though they were outscored 21-27 in the final period.

Kenji Roman led the five Baby Tams who scored in double digit with 16 points, LJ Gonzales and JJ Sapinit both added 13 points, Xyrus Torres and Daniel Celzo contributed 11 and 10 points respectively. FEU-FERN improved their record to 2-1.

Dave Ildefonso topped the scoring for Ateneo with 22 points, followed by SJ Belangel and Rom Berjay with 17 and 12 points. The Blue Eaglets dropped their second game to go down 1-2.

The UPIS Junior Maroons topped the UE Junior Warriors 95-63. The Junior Maroons dominates early in the game taking a 23-12 lead in the opening period and duplicating it in the second period to take a 46-24 lead to end the first half.

Going to the second  half the Junior warriors were able to outperform the Junior Maroons after taking a 28-13 third quarter output to cut the lead of UPIS down to a 52-59. but the Junior Maroons unleashed their wrath in the final period making a 36 point output, the highest quarter output this season to push the Juniors away and secure the win.

Four Junior Maroons scored a double-double led by Juan Gomez De Liano with 24 points and 111 rebounds, Ralph Labao had 14 points and 10 steals, while Jo Tupaz had 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Matt Santiago had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Dustin Angeles and Genesis Vinte scored 11 points for UE.
