#UAAPLXXIX Juniors Basketball: 11/12/16




The Ateneo Blue Eaglets escaped past the UST Tiger Cubs 79-76 to kick off season 79. The Blue Eaglets had took an early 23-19 lead to open the game, but the Tiger Cubs get back in the second period outscoring Ateneo 17-12 to take a 36-35 lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half the Blue Eaglets were able to recover and retake the lead at 62-57 at the end of the third. UST tried to make a comeback in the final period, but the Blue Eaglets were able to secure the victory to foil the comeback of UST.

SJ Belangel had 20 points and 15 rebounds to power the Blue Eaglets to the win, Jason Credo added 15 points and Rom Berjay had 10 points. Meanwhile, Inand Fornillos had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Tiger Cubs in losing efforts.

The FEU Baby Tamaraws stunned last year's runners up DLSZ Junior Archers after a 66-56 victory to kick off the season 79 of the juniors basketball of the UAAP at the San Juan Arena. 

The Baby Tamaraws were off to a hot start as they take a 20-13 lead to open the game, tho going to the second period the Junior Archers were able to bounce back to cut the lead of FEU-FERN down to 4, to end the first half 30-34.

DLSZ tried to stage a comeback in the third period as they continue to chase down the lead of the Baby Tams at 47-44. The Baby Tamaraws charged their way up in the final period as they began to pull away to extend their lead up to 14, giving DLSZ a hard time catching up. 

Jack Gloria scored an opening game double-double performance, having 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Baby Tams. Meanwhile Xyrus Torres and Kenji Roman added 11 points and 16 rebounds respectively. 

On the side of Zobel, Astrolave Vista and Martin Romero both scored 9 points, while Franz Diaz added 8 points.

The Adamson Baby Falcons dominates the UPIS Junior Maroons 82-59. The Baby Falcons was so much even though the Junior Maroons features more promising players than them,

Adamson opened the game with an early 33-11 lead, and extended it to a 54-26 lead at the end of the half. In the second half the Junior Maroons were able to get back in the ball game as they were able to outscore the Baby Falcons at 24-13 to cut the deficit down to a 50-67 ball game.

But the momentum that UPIS got in the third wasn't carried over in the final period as they were only able to score 9 points, giving Adamson the chance to capitalize the game and take home their opening day victory.

Carl Tamayo topped the stats line for the Baby Falcons, having 14 points and 11 rebounds, Flo Serrano added 14 points and 7 rebounds as well for Adamson. Meanwhile, Juan Gomez De Liano led the Junior Maroons with 18 points and 12 rebounds, Matt Santiago added 14 points and 8 rebounds.

The defending champions NU Bullpups opened their title defense by beating up the hapless UE Junior Warriors 104-54.

Dominance was the story of the final game of the opening gameday of the UAAP Juniors Basketball as the Bullpups scored a huge 34-15 first quarter output, that was pushed up to a 59-35 advantage at the end of the first half.

Entering the second half the Junior Warriors experienced the worst, scoring 3 points in the third period alone to set the lowest quarter output this season with this the lead of the Bullpup ballooned to a 52 point lead entering the final stretch of the game.

John Lloyd Clemente topped the scoring for the Bullpups with 21 points, followed Rhayyan Amsali with 18 points. Meanwhile, Genesis Vinte led the Junior Warriors with 17 points, Sean Manaug added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
