The Ghost Bride

The Ghost Bride tackles the story of Mayen (Chiu) a loving daughter despite their family being poor she still strives to provide for her family specially her Akoh (Beverly Salviejo), father (Robert Sena), and mother (Ina Raymundo).
Her simple and quiet life became problematic after her father got sick, leaving them in big debt from there enters the character of Angie Lao (Alice Dixson) or the Matchmaker offering Mayen an offer she couldn’t resist being a “Ghost Bride”, but Mayen not knowing the risk she is taking accepted the offer and from there series of bizarre killings started leaving Mayen afraid and disturbed on what is going on.
Will Mayen escape the curse of being a Ghost Bride?
I could say that The Ghost Bride is another remarkable masterpiece from Direk Chito Rono, as it opens another realm of another weird practice from the Chinese. I like how Direk Chito differs this one from Feng Shui, it’s too shocking but it will make you feel the emotions of the characters as you will also feel scared as well
Another thing that I liked about this movie is the smooth flow of the story, the continuity was fluid and every scenes are well stitched together and I must say that every scene will leave you at the edge of your seat with your eyes covered.
The only thing I didn’t liked about this movie is that it tried so hard to be gory, it is too visual that I believe it went overboard and fake at some point.
Kim Chiu was really different in this movie, she owned the character of Mayen and she was able to deliver it the best way she could. Also this is the first time that I didn’t laughed at Kim’s performance as she was really taken over by the character.
Beverly Salviejo really did scared me in this movie, this is the first time I watched her in a horror movie that the character she portrays is a serious one. I am looking forward watching her again in a horror movie with a serious character.
All in all The Ghost Bride is a must watch, though it is gory the story was really good.
