Review: Uninvited: All Glam, Lacks Intensity.

Uninvited follows the story of a scorned mother, Eva Candelaria/Lilia Capistrano seeking revenge on those who maligned and killed her only child. Eva gatecrashed the birthday party of tycoon Guilly Vera who is the prime suspect in the killing of her daughter Lily and its boyfriend Tofy. Lingering at the mansion where the party is being held, Eva met the henchmen and family of Guilly including Nicole, his only daughter.

The movie was a slow burn, almost half an hour already passed, and the story is still not peaking, I thought that Uninvited would be the slow burn type of movie that when the things get going everything spreads like a wildfire, but I was wrong the movie was quite underwhelming.

Vilma Santos delivered a great performance once again, hands down to the 70-year-old she just proved that she is indeed the star for all seasons. She did deliver well in her fight scenes, I love the gla
mmed up look of her revenge although I wished they opted to make Ate Vi still glammed up while one by one executing the antagonists in the movie, they left her bloodied and deglamorized at the end of the movie.

Aga Muhlach on the other hand delivered an exceptional performance as Guilly, Aga gave me chills with the way he delivered his character. It felt like he resurrected the Cattleya Killer from 1996, it was filthy, crazy, and maniac.

The story should’ve focused more on the story of Lily and Tofy, although Gabby Padilla really did play her role as Lily with flying colors, the incorporation of the flashbacks wasn’t really that utilized to fuel up the intensity of the movie, it could’ve been better if the story was Lily went missing and Lilia went on to find her instead of instantly killing Lily.

There were also unnecessary scenes included, such as the scene with two young boys being executed by the character of Gio Alvarez.

The finale scene lacked intensity, suspense, thrill, it lacked chasing and action, I just wished Ate Vi just killed them all in the party with a poison rather than battling each one of them one by one, it could’ve been more dramatic seeing each of them slowly dying.

Over all, Uninvited was a good movie, Vilma Santos and Aga Muhlach saved the movie with their splendid acting skills, it could’ve been better if the movie’s plot just followed how Eva will take down Guilly and his team, rather than focusing on establishing how evil Guilly was.
