What does the Philippines look like if it wasn't colonized by the Spaniards? Will the country of seven thousand plus islas embrace a monarchy type of society. perhaps a Kingdom just like our neighbors in the South East Asia like Thailand.
This 2024, Vic Sotto is shedding off his funny man side as he plays Lakan Makisig the ruler of the Kingdom called "Kalayaan". A once benevolent king, Lakan is set to pass on his crown and power but trouble surrounds him as he couldn't see any of his children as worthy successors to the throne.
As the struggle for power grew more and more, Lakan's leadership gets tested for the last time as the uprising starts to draw blood from the people of Malaya.
Lakan's quest to find the rightful heir brought him to Sulo played by Piolo Pascual. Sulo is a "tinatwa" or an outcast, he has no tattoos and because of this he was denied of basic needs from the monarchy such as education, this is why he strives hard to fight social injustice and questions the capability of Lakan and the whole monarchy to lead its people.
Despite Sulo, being a "tinatwa" Lakan entrusted the safety of her favorite daughter Dayang Lualhati played by Sue Ramirez.
Will Lakan Makisig be successful in choosing the right heir that will restore the peace and equality in the Kingdom of Kalayaan?
