#UAAP78 Day 23: UE Stay In Contention, Ateneo Take The Third Final Four Spot



In the return of action in the UAAP at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the UE Red Warriors stuns number 2 seed UST 91-77 to keep their final four hopes alive.

Coming off a break Red Warriors didn't show sluggish performance as they were able to lead UST at the end of the first period at 20-15, though in the second period the Growling Tigers were able to caught up with UE trimming their lead to just a single point to end the first half 38-39.

In the third period the Red Warriors again showed that they won't give UST a chance to make a comeback in the in the third period as they extend their lead to end the third period up by 10, 62-52.

In the final quarter again UST threatens to make a comeback as they slowly erasing the lead of the Red Warriors down by just only 2 points 70-68 with 3:52 remaining in the game, but UE was just in to getting the win as again they were able to answer with their own run to extend their lead to a more comfortable 80-71 lead.

Clark Derige was on fire in this game as he scored 26 points to lead the Red Warriors in getting the win to stay alive in the final four race. meanwhile Karim Abdul posted a double double performance of 25 points and 15 rebounds as UST dropped their third game this season.

In the second game, the Ateneo Blue Eagles swept the battle of Katipunan after they fend off the UP Fighting Maroons 74-65, sealing the third final four spot. 
The first few minutes went well for the Fighting Maroons as theyw ere able to still keep the game close and even leading at 9-8 entering the 4 minute mark, but with just a snap Ateneo showed that they are the dominant team in the game as they were able to make a 10-3 run to end the first period 19-11.

The second period was no good for the Fighting Maroons, as Ateneo was able to pull away and take a huge 45-26 lead at the end of the first half, in the third period UP finally were able to get a chance to closed in the game as they outscored the Blue Eagles 18-9 to end the third at 54-44.

In the final quarter it was the young guns of Ateneo who took over the job of maintaining their double digit lead against the determined Fighting maroons, but UP's run was just too late as the blue Eagles managed to give them their 8th loss in 11 games.

Again Rookie Blue Eagle Adrian Wong showed that he is the future of Ateneo as he scored 14 points helping Kiefer Ravena who topscored them with 16 points in this game to secure the third spot in the final four. On the side of the Maroons Diego Dario led UP with 13 points.
