Found footage films is a genre of movie that presents its story as if it was a discovered footage, typically the story telling is in a first-person point of view or it is as if the characters are filming themselves using a handheld camera through out the movie and gets presented to the audiences as if it was real and raw footages.
This type of filmmaking gives a touch of realism, making the audiences feel that they are as well experiencing what the characters are experiencing since it is presented in a first-person point of view.
This type of genre is often used in horror or suspense movie, the most popular would be the Blair With Project and of course the Paranormal Activity franchise that used a documentary style of story telling to make the moviegoers feel that they are witnessing real actual events.
In the Philippines, the use of found footage genre is quite rare, the only movie that I remembered using this type of genre is the movie Salvage in 2015, starring Jessie Mendiola and was directed by Sherad Sanchez.
This 2024, as a part of the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival this December, Reality MM Studios and Creative Leaders Group 8 is bringing a new found footage film in "Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Hospital Killer" based on the hit Korean horror flick "Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum".
The movie stars Enrique Gil as himself and as the host of Strange Frequencies, a show that dares celebrities to enter the scariest and most haunted places on Earth. Joining Quen in this quest inside the Xinling Hospital in Taiwan are Alexa Miro, Rob Gomez, Raf Pineda, Vlogger Zarckaroo, MJ Lastimosa, and Jane De Leon.
Little did these celebrities know that their quest for the supernatural will fire back to haunt them back inside the killer hospital, streamed all over the internet, will they be able to make it back safe or will they vanished in the most haunted hospital in Taiwan?
Directed by Kerwin Go, prepare for the jump scare galore as "Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Hotel Killer" premieres in cinemas on Christmas day!
