Defending Champions San Beda University Red Lions survived late run of the host school Perpetual Help Altas to take opening game victory 67-65 in the opening day of the 94th season of the NCAA held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Red Lions had some opening game jitters at the start of the game trailing behind 0-5 in the first three minutes of the game, though they were still able to control the game 13-10 over the Altas after the opening game.
The Altas opens up the second period with a big three to tie the game at 13, they were even able to take over the lead at 22-19 before San Beda was able to tie the game at 23-all after the first half.
San Beda roared back in the third period as they take a big 6-0 run to open the second half to take the lead at 29-23, but Perpetual was quick to answer as they were able to cut the lead down to 33-34 though the Red Lions were still able to keep a 44-40 advantage at the end of the third.
In the final period, the Altas were able to take over the lead at 48-45 early in the fourth, but the Red Lions kept their composure as they recover the lead at 61-57, the Altas were able to keep the score as close as 65-63.
Donald Tankoua was able to give San Beda a 67-63 breather, Prince Eze cuts the lead down to a 65-67 with 14.8 seconds left in the game. Presbitero gets fouled with 9 seconds left but he misses both free throw, Eze gets the rebound but Bolick was able to steal the ball in the process sealing the win for the Reds.
Robert Bolick had 15 points in this game, Javee Mocon added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Donald Tankoua scored 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Red Lions.
Edgar Charcos led the scoring for the Altas with 14 points and 7 assists, Prince Eze added 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Jeffrey Coronel added 13 points.

The Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates fends off the pesky squad of San Sebastian Golden Stags 85-80.
The Pirates opened the game with a commanding 22-14 lead, but the Stags were able to make a comeback in the second period tying the game at 43-all to finish the first half.
Going to the second half, Lyceum was able to recover and take a 67-60 advantage after the third period, in the final period the San Sebastian tried to make a comeback, but to no avail they ran out of gas to push their run in the final tick of the clock.
Mike Nzeusseu had a huge output after producing 23 points and 20 rebounds, CJay Perez added 15 points, and Jaycee Marcelino scored 13 points for Lyceum.
RK Ilagan top scored for the Stags with 18 points, Allyn Bulanadi scored 15 points, while Michael Calisaan added 12 points and 12 rebounds
