#UAAPLXXIX Juniors Basketball Finals Game 1: FEU Baby Tamaraws escape past the NU Bullpups

The Far Eastern University-FERN Baby Tamaraws upset the defending champion National U Bullpups after escaping them in a tight 66-65 victory.
The Baby Tams opened the game sloppy giving NU a chanceto start a 9-2 run, but FEUdidn't let the Bullpups build up an early advantage as their outside shooting went hot to snatch the lead back to a 24-20.
Going to the second period the Baby Tamaraws were able to keep the momentum they had in the opening period to push thelead up 43-34 at the end of the first half.
But going to the second half, the game of the Baby Tamaraws slowed down leaving the doors open for the Bullpups to start a comeback, cutting the lead of FEU down 52-57 in the third period.
In the final period the Baby Tamaraws game completely shut down as they were only able to score 9 points, they almost lost the game after a costly turn over was committed giving NU the chance to closed in at 65-66 with a few ticks remaining in the game but the Baby Tams were saved by the bell as time ran out for the Bullpup to complete a comeback.
Kenji Roman led the scoring for the Baby Tamaraws with 12 points and 8 rebounds while Xyrus Torres added 10 points, but it was LJ Gonzales who led the charge for FEU as he almost had a triple double having 7 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
On the side of the Bullpups, John Lloyd Clemente scored 25 points in losing efforts, Win Coyuca and Rhayyan Amsali added 11 and 10 points respectively for NU.
The game 2 of the finals will be on Friday, February 24, 2pm still at the San Juan Arena.
