#UAAPLXXIX Juniors Basketball: 2/1/17

 
The National U Bullpups copped the top spot after beating the UPIS Junior Maroons 90-64. The Bullpups opened the game with an early 23-12 lead, though going to the second period the Junior maroons were able to bounce back, cutting the deficit down to 37-41 at the end of the first half.
 
National U prevented the Junior Maroons to carry over their run in the second half as they build up another wall that kept UPIS away, pushing the deficit up to a 64-50 deficit. In the final period the Bullpups completely dominated the Junior Maroons as they pushed their lead as high as 26 to take the win and the top stop.
 
Karl Penano top scored again for the Bullpups with 15 points, Rhayyan Amsali and Michael Malonzo both scored 14 points and 10 rebounds, John Lloyd Clemente and Win Coyuca added 13 and 11 points repectively. On the side of the UPIS, Ralph Labao was the only one who scored in double figures with 21 points.

After an impressive run this season 79, the Adamson Baby Falcons is fazed after the UAAP Board declared their top gun rookie, Florencio Serrano ineligible to play for this season after the latter failed to submit requirements regarding his highschool record (click here for the official statement of the UAAP Board). This results to forfeiture of all the games they won prior to this game where Serrano played, meaning from the number one spot with an 11-1 record the Baby Falcons are down to number 8 winless.
 
Despite the ill fated thing that happened to their team, the Adamson Baby Falcons were able to crush the UST Tiger Cubs 92-58 to take their first win.

The Ateneo Blue Eaglets moves up to 10-3 after dispatching the hapless UE Junior Warriors 92-53.
 
The Blue Eaglets ascend on top early in the game after taking a 37-16 lead in the opening quarter, going to the next quarter Ateneo continues punish the Junior Archers after extending the lead up to 58-38 advantage.  
 
A lopsided third quarter performance buried the Junior Warriors down in the game,as they gave way for the Blue Eaglets to pull away and take a 83-38 lead, though UE was able to trim down a bit of the lead in the final period after a 15-9 final quarter output.
 
SJ Belangel and Rom Berjay led the Blue Eaglets with 14 ad 13 points respectively followed Jason Credo and Dave Ildefonso with 12 points each, and rounding the stats line is Kai Sotto with 10 points. Andrei Dulalia scored a double-doubole for the Junior Warriors with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

The Far Eastern University FERN Baby Tamaraws solidifies their hold on the second spot as they move up 11-2 after outlasting the De La Salle Zobel Junior Archers 70-56. 

The Baby Tamaraws had a strong start, kicking off the game with a 21-9 lead in the opening quarter. Eventhough the Junior Archers were able to match the output of FEU in the second period, the Baby Tamas were still able to maintain their lead after finishing the first half still on top 38-24. 

In the second half the Junior Archers were able to tie the game at 42, thiugh FEU was still able to keep a 48-42 cushion despite a lopsided 10-18 3rd quarter pergormance. Zobel tried to build up momentum again going to the final period, but the Baby Tams were able to prevent them as they were able to get their rhythm back and began to pull away in the final minutes of the game. 

LJ Gonzales led the charge for the Baby Tamaraws with 20 points, while Rhon Abarrientos added 13 points for FEU. On the side of Zobel, Jan Sobrevega was the lone scorer to score in double digits with 11 points.
