#NCAA92 Day 5: Mapua & San Beda Retains Share of Top Spot, JRU NotchesFirst Win



The Mapua Cardinals went for their third straight victory after defeating the Lyceum Pirates 75-64 as the Basketball Tournament of the 92nd season of the NCAA reseumes after a week of hiatus.

Lyceum started strong in the game having an early 8-2 lead in the opening period, but the Cardinals made a quick work to counter the pirates to closed in at 22-20 at the end of the first. The second period was a close one as they started to exchange the lead, but it was Mapua finally getting the lead to end the first half a 38-35.

In the third period the Pirates collapsed as they were only able to score 7 points, letting Mapua runaway 58-42, Entering the final 10 minutes Lyceum tried to make a comeback, but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals were able to sealed of their third straight win.

Allwell Oraeme showcased again the reason why he is the reigning MVP as he puts up another monster double-double performance of 22 points and 25 rebounds, CJ Isit and Exi Biteng added 16 and 15 points for the Cardinals as they stay undefeated in the tournament.

Mike Nzeusseu also had a double double performance having 16 points and 19 rebounds, Jasper Ayaay added 15 points and 8 rebounds for Lyceum as they stay win less in the tournament. at 0-3.

San Beda Young Guns Radge Tongco and AC Soberano finally stepped up for the Red Lions as they lead their team to the top after beating the EAC Generals 91-76.

San Beda though trailing behind at the beginning of the game were still able to make a comeback to take the lead back 20-13 after an 8-0 run against the Generals. Entering the second period the Red Lions started to roar against EAC as they extend their lead to 14 going in to the last two minutes of the first half, inside the last two minutes of the first half EAC still managed to trim the lead of the Red Lions down by 6 to end the first half 40-34.

San Beda made ahuge third quarter storm as they outscored the Generals 33-19 to push the lead up 71-53 at the end of the third period, Radge Tongco had 11 points in that quarter. In the final quarter EAC tried to catch up as they made some runs in the period, but the lead of the Red Lion ballooned to 16 entering the final two minutes of the game making it difficult for EAC to stage a comeback.

Radge Tongco finally stepped up his game with the absence of their team captain Dan Sara as He and AC Soberano had a break out game in this game with Radge having 22 points and AC with 21 points, 15 of which came in the 2nd half to keep San Beda's record unblemished at 3-0.

On the side of the Generals, Hamadou Laminou had 18 points to top the scorers, while Francis Munsayac 13 points as EAC goes down to 1-2.

The Jose Rizal University finally ended their losing skid after a dominant win against the College of Saint Benilde 86-56.

A dominant JRU squad bombarded the Blazers early in the game having 22 big points and limiting CSB to just 6 in the first. The second period was better for the Blazers as theyw ere able to score 16 points, though they still ended the first half down bigtime 36-22.

In the third quarter, JRU Sparked a huge run outscoring the Blazers again at 21-12 to extend their lead to 57-34. In the fourth period the JRU dropped their biggest bomb as they extended their lead to 32 points to secure their first win for the season sending CSB win less after four games..

Paolo Pontejos spearheaded the offense for the Heavy Bombers with 23 points, Teytey Teodoro added 15 points for JRU. On the side of CSB, JJ Domingo was the lone bright spot in the team as he top scored 21 points, Newbie Kendrix Belgica added 11 points for the Blazers
