NBTC on S+A

S+A, in its drive to tell the story of the Filipino athlete’s journey to stardom, has partnered anew with the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC), the official grassroots program of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). S+A will be airing Philippine high school basketball’s National Championship games tomorrow, Thursday (March 16), 6pm, and the All-Star games on March 17, starting at 2pm.

ABS-CBN Integrated Sports head Dino Laurena and NBTC director Eric Altamirano signed the contract last March 1 for the coverage of the tournament, which involves 627 high school teams from 62 cities, with the local champions advancing to the regional qualifiers.

The 16 regional winners advance to the national championships in Manila. This marks another opportunity for S+A, the country’s leading local sports channel on free TV, to give spotlight to young Filipino athletes as they make their journey from promising players to bonafide superstars in the collegiate level.

NBTC, now on its 10th year, discovered the likes of San Beda’s Baser Amer, Far Eastern University’s Roger Pogoy, and De La Salle University’s Jeron Teng, who have all emerged as standouts in the collegiate leagues. Spicing up the NBTC games this year is the inclusion of teams from Canada, Australia, Thailand, and even the United States featuring Fil-foreigners.
