#NCAA91 Day 28: Letran Gets Solo Lead, Perpetual Help Escapes To Tie At Third

Another impending upset was foiled by Mark Cruz as he carried the Letran Knights in their win against the College of Saint Benilde Blazers 79-69 in the Wednesday double header of NCAA season 91. 

CSB was off to a hot start in the first period as they led the Knights 22-13 at the end of the quarter, the hot shooting of the Blazers continued early in the second quarter with rookies Jayjay Domngo and Christian Fajarito scoring for CSB, but Letran slowly erasing the lead as they began to heat things up even tying the game at 31- all with 2:30 left in the second quarter and even getting the lead back after Kevin Racal shoots up a three to keep the Blazers behind in the third to make a 37-33 ball game with less than 2 minutes remaining but JayS Domingo scores 5 straight points to keep the game close at 40-39 at the end of the first half. 

In the second half the Blazers threaten to pull away late in the third quarter as they ballooned their lead to a 55-48 lead with two minutes remaining in the period, but the Knights were able to recover as they closed in at 56-54 to end the third period, In the fourth quarter Letran finally gets the lead back on them as the offense of  CSB gets cold as Mark Cruz scored 5 unanswered points to seal the win for the Knights.

Letran's veteran duo Mark Cruz and Kevin Racal scored 20 and 18 points respectively as the knights regain the solo lead in the standing, meanwhile rookie Jayjay Domingo and veteran Jonathan Grey combined 28 points for the CSB Blazers.

In the second game Bright Akhuetie foils San Beda's revenge over the Perpetual Help Altas as he scored a buzzer beater to sweep the Red Lions 88-86 in the elimination round.

Perpetual Help started slow in the game, giving San Beda the chance to dominate them in the first quarter with a 6-16 lead 3 minutes remaining in the first period, but the Altas were able to close the lead down to a 14-17 at the end of the first, entering the second quarter Perpetual Help shooting gets hot as they were able to grab the lead at 22-21 to start the quarter, meanwhile San Beda's hot shooting turned cold as they were outscored by the Altas to end the first half 39-35. 

In the third quarter the Perps were able to build a huge 10 point lead 47-37 early in the period, but the Red Lions were able to recover late in the third as they were able to end the quarter with only a single point deficit against the Altas 61-60 after Baser Amer shoots down a three.

In the final quarter San Beda's Ryusei Koga was able to tie the game at 73- all  and eventually getting a 79-81 advantage entering the last two minutes of the game, but Bright Akhuetie was able to tie the game at 81-all, Earl Thompson scored another basket for the Altas to get a 83-81 lead with less than a minute left but Baser Amer again knocks off a three to get the lead back to San Beda at 83-84 with 45 seconds left, 

In the last 5 seconds of the game Earl Thompson almost lost the ball that could cause an overtime, but Nestor Bantayan quickly picked up the ball with 2 seconds left and pass it to Bright Akhuetie to shoot it down just in time to steal the win for the Perpetual Help Altas. 

Bright Akhuetie scored 31 points for the Altas, meanwhile Ola Adeogun score 26 for the Red Lions

#UAAP78 Day 3: UP, UST Scores Back To Back Win

In the first game of the 3rd day of action in the 78th season of the UAAP at the Araneta Coliseum, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons scored their biggest win after almost a decade as they stun the De La Salle University Green Archers 71-66

The UP Fighting Maroons is proving that they will not be this seasons cellar dwellers after dominating the DLSU Green Archers in their game, leading by as much as 21 points in fourth quarter, the Maroons were able to capitalize the weak defense of the Green Archers.

Though rookie guard Andrei Caracut was able to spark a huge run for La Salle as they trimmed the huge lead down to a 61-55 lead with less than a minute left in the game, but even with the huge run by La Salle, UP still were able to keep their lead after Jeron Teng fouled out of the game after an offensive foul was called on him with few seconds left in the game.

Jett Manuel and Paul Desiderio led the UP Fighting Maroons combining 27 points to win this game, meanwhile Prince Rivero and Andrei Caracut also combined 27 points for the Green Archers in losing efforts.

In the second game, after their big win last Sunday, the FEU Tamaraws fell against the UST Tigers 72-71, after the Tamaraws failed to get a game winning shot as Mike Tolomia was forced to  turn over the ball with less than 8 seconds left in the game.

Early in the game the Tamaraws were already struggling with their offense as UST's defense was bugging and preventing them to create plays like what they did in their last game, the Tigers gave a hard time for FEU's guards Mike Tolomia and Achie Inigo to score only letting them score 8 and 3 points respectively in the game.

Even though the Tigers leading the match the Tamaraws were able to keep it close and finally were able to taste the lead in the third quarter after a 30 point explosion heading to the final quarter, UST were able to recover and grab back the lead as Kevin Ferrer shoots back to back three to take back the lead at 66-65, meanwhile with less than two minutes left Ed Daquioag scored 6 points for the Tigers to get an 72-69 lead, but a perimeter shot by Russell Escoto almost tied the game but it was only called as 2 points due to a stepping violation,

Ed Daquioag stars in this game with 18 point for UST while Mac Belo scored 17 points for FEU. Last year FEU also lost to UST in the first round with only a single point lead.

Pretty, lovely, and talented, that is the three words that comes first to my mind when I hear the name Yassi Pressman, and why not she got the looks, super nice attitude and of course she can act, she can dance and now she is about to show us that she can sing, as she launches her self titled album Yassi now is one of the fast rising Viva Artist Agency talents after her debut on the big screen via the "Diary Ng Panget" Co starring James Reid and Nadine Lustre with Andre Paras. 

Her album "Yassi" was first released in iTunes and Spotify, and now officially available in CD format, the album comes with 6 original songs that is mostly upbeat or EDM since Yassi was known to be the "Princess of the Dance Floor". The songs in the album includes "Hush" which is a duet with Nadine Lustre, and "Di Ko Alam" and "Dahil Sa'yo" which she sang with his current love team partner Andre Paras, other songs are entitled "Walang Unahan", "LaLa", "The Possibility of You & Me",  

Yassi's next project in line after the album is two big movies under Viva Films, of course with Andre Paras, the first movie is set to premiere this November entitled "Wang Family" directed by Wenn V Deramas and also stars Pokwang and Benjie Paras, the second movie is their first ever movie of Andre Paras as the lead stars entitled "Girlfriend for Hire" which is also a wattpad adaptation to be directed by Jose Javier Reyes that is set to be the opening salvo of Viva Films for 2016.    

#NCAA91 Day 27: Mapua Makes It Three Win In A Row, Arellano Secures Solo Third.

In the first game of the Back-To-Back games yesterday, the Mapua Cardinals go for their third straight victory after defeating JRU Heavy Bombers 68-67 to get the solo fifth position in the standing and still keeping their final four hopes alive.

It was a close battle between the two squads in the first three quarters, in the fourth quarter the game intensifies, more as both squads refuse to give out more than four points as a lead until the dying seconds of the game, but a put back basket plus a foul for Mark Brana sealed the game for the Cardinals.

Allwell Oraeme scored 19 points to lead the Cardinals in this win, meanwhile Paolo Pontejos scored 21 points for JRU in losing efforts.

In the second game, Arellano University Chiefs over powered the Lyceum of the Philippines University 97-83 to secure their solo third position.

The Arellano Chiefs completely dominated the Lyceum Pirates in the first quarter letting them score only 13 points, though the Pirates were able to catch up at the end of the first half trimming the 14 point lead of the Chiefs down to a 47-33.

In the second half the hot shooting of Arellano gets even hotter as they were able to outscore Lyceum again in the third quarter, finishing with their biggest lead in the game 75-54. In the final period the Lyceum Pirates were able to make a late run in the dying minutes of the game, but it didn't work for them as the Chiefs already secured the victory.

"The Bus Driver" Jovanie Jalalon led the Chiefs with 18 points, adding to that is Dionce Holts 16 points. On the other side Wilson Baltazar led the late run of Lyceum scoring 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter.

#UAAP78 Day 2: La Salle, FEU Scores Opening Game Victory.

On the second day of the opening weekend of the 78th season of the UAAP held at the Mall of Asia Arena. In the 12 noon game the De La Salle Green Archers dealt the defending champions, National University Bulldogs an opening day loss 67-63.

The Green Archers held on to their defense in the first half only letting the struggling Bulldogs to score only 6 points at the end of the first quarter, DLSU continues to dictate the pace of the game as they maintain a 10 point deficit at the end of the first half 33-23.

Gelo Alolino tried to force a comeback for the Bulldogs late in the fourth quarter after cutting the lead of La Salle to 59-60 with  over a minute remaining in the ball game, but the Green Archer's defense puts a stop to NU's run as they were able to get back to back baskets from Jason Perkins and Jeron Teng to secure the win for La Salle.

Jeron Teng led the Green Archers in scoring with 18 points, adding to that is Andrei Caracut's 13 points. Meanwhile Gelo Alolino and JJay Alejandro scored 16 and 15 points respectively for NU.

In the 4pm game, last years' runner up, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws proved to be this seasons' title contender after they dominated the Ateneo Blue Eagles 88-64.

The Tamaraws started off the game on a high note as Pogoy and Tolomia hits almost all of their shots out scoring Ateneo at the end of the first quarter 23-11, The struggle of  the Blue Eagles continue as their blue chip rookies failed to help in the scoring department that drowned them to a huge 44-26 deficit at the end of the first half.

In the third quarter reigning MVP Kiefer Ravena poured in a couple of Three's to trim down the Tamaraws lead down, but Roger Pogoy and the rest of the Tams shooting is still hot as they were able to take it a 15 point lead over the Blue Eagles to the end of the third period at 64-49.

Roger Pogoy top scored for the Tamaraws with 19 points in this blow out win, meanwhile Kiefer Ravena carried the Blue Eagles in this game producing 25 points.

#UAAP78 Day 1: UP Edges UE, UST Beats Adamson.

In the opening game of the season, Host School, University of the Philippines Fighting Maroon defeated the young squad of the University of the East Red Warriors 62-55.

Though the game didn't start on a high note as the first quarter ended At 11-7 in favor of the Maroons, UP was able to command the pace of the game as UE struggles to find their rhythm inside the court, but still the young Red Warriors squad were able to keep the battle as close as possible.

The Red Warriors even threatens to make a comeback in the final period as they were able to trim down UP's 43-56 lead to 55-59 with 20.8 seconds left in the game, but Gelo Vito's three secured the win for the Fighting Maroons.

Gelo Vito top scored the Fighting Maroons with 11 points, while Rookie Edson Battiler led the Red Warriors with 17 points.

In the second game the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers survived a late run by the Adamson University Soaring Falcons 70-64. 

UST showed their maturity and experience early in the game as they shoot down the young Adamson squad early in the game with a huge 22-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Falcons took the challenge in the second quarter as they tamed the streaking Tigers only letting them score 6 points to trim the lead down to 28-25 at the end of the first half. 

In the second half, the Tigers maintain their lead keeping the Falcons behind 51-45 at the end of the third period, in the fourth quarter Adamson were able to get as close as 59-61 with less than two minutes remaining, but UST's veterans responds to make the lead back up to 64-67 with a few ticks left in the game. 

Veterans Ed Daquiaog  and Kevin Ferrer carried the tigers combining 52 points, only 5 tigers were able to score in the game, meanwhile Joseph Nallos and Dawn Ochea combined 30 points for the Falcons in losing efforts.

#NCAA91 Day 26: Letran Gets Back On Top, CSB With A Huge Win, Arellano Prevails In Over Time

In the first game of the Friday Triple header of the 91st season of the NCAA, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights regains the share of the top spot after defeating the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates 74-57.

A huge fourth quarter run by Letran saves them from an almost upset being put up by by Lyceum early in the fourth after getting a 8-2 run to turn the 47-42 lead at the end of the third period to a 49-50 lead against the Knights, but Mark Cruz sparked a huge 23-3 run late in the fourth to stun the Pirates 72-53 with less than two minutes remaining.

Mark Cruz poured in 8 triples in this game to lead the Knights with 26 points, adding to that is Kevin Racal's 19 points. Meanwhile, Victor Nguidjol led the Pirates with 20 points, The Pirates now dropped to 3-9, while Letran grab the share of the lead with San Beda both at 10-2.

In the second game, the College of Saint Benilde Blazers finally notches a huge win after a series of loss after their dominant win against the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals 81-57.

The Blazers started hot in the game ending the first quarter with a commanding 17-9 lead over the Generals to dictate the pace of the game in favor of CSB, the lead ballooned to 19 points at the end of the first half at 37-18,

EAC's defense and offense got worst entering the third frame as they were only able to score 13 points, while CSB is unstoppable producing 23 points to extend their lead to 60-31 at the end of the quarter. In the last period the Generals tried to stage a comeback out scoring the blazers in that quarter, though they were outscored in the last quarter the Blazers maintained their huge lead to secure the win.

Rookie Jayjay Domingo led CSB producing 16 points to get win number three for the Blazers. Francis Munsayac top scored on the side of EAC producing 15 points.

In the final game of the Friday Triple Header of the NCAA, Arellano University Chiefs avenges their first round loss against the University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta Altas after defeating them in overtime 84-77.

It was a really close battle as both teams exchanges lead in every quarter, in the fourth frame Perpetual Help was comfortably leading at 65-58 with 6 minutes left in the game, but Arellano were able to make a run to tie the game at 68-68 to force an overtime. In the next 5 minutes the chiefs dominated the Altas to take the win. Both squads are tied at the #3 and #4 spot with 8-4 record.

It was a battle between two of the best guards in the league, namely Jovanie Jalalon and Scottie Thompson as they both not only top scored for their respective team, but also they both put up triple double stats at the end of the game. Jovanie Jalalon scored 32 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Chiefs, while Scottie Thompson made 24 points, 11 assists and 12 rebounds.
