It's Christmas time again and that means that it's also the season of Metro Manila Film Festival and unlike last year where all 10 entries are streamed online and all events are virtual, this year on their 47th year the festival is raring to return in cinemas as the movie industry is slowly returning.
So okay, we are going to list down the 5 guys from different entries that caught our attention in this year's film festival.
1. Juan Carlos Gallano, Nelia.
Nelia is a suspense thriller that tackles the mystery behind patients suddenly dying in a hospital and a nurse that is risking her life to unfold these mystery. The movie stars Winwyn Marquez and it also introduces a newbie hottie that makes it first to our list, Juan Carlos Galano.
Juan Carlos Galano, 24, started out as a commercial model, we first saw him in a fast food chain series and we've seen him mostly on social media flaunting his well chiseled body either by the beach or wearing a skimpy underwear.
In Nelia, Juan Carlos plays the role of Jeff, a nurse that is very observant and mysterious who works with Nelia that assigned to the mysterious room 009, is he a friend or not?
2. Anthony Jennings, Love At First Stream
He almost had his biggest break in showbizness back in 2020 when his role in the now cancelled "Make it with you" became a hit, but the pandemic seemed to restarted Anthony Jennings' career and now he is all set to make it big this time as he is re introduced in yet his biggest project so far, the MMFF entry Love at First Stream that is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.
Anthony, 21, plays the role of Tupe, a happy go lucky, but very family oriented guy that is willing to do everything for his loved ones that he even ended up saying yes to Vi's (Daniella Stranner) request for them collab for a vlog, without Vi knowing his feelings for her.
Will love begin at first stream?
3. Ken Chan, Huling Ulan sa Tag Araw.
Ken Chan is all set in his MMFF debut via his movie "Huling Ulan Sa Tag Araw" with love team Rita Daniella, the movie tells the story of two different people from both ends of the world.
Ken, 28, plays the role of Luis, a seminarian that is on a leave who by accident met Luisa, a sex worker who loves to change her hair color. With Luisa coming to the picture conflict rises between Luis and the vocation he is into.
Will Luis chooses Love or his vocation?
4. Christian Bables, Big Night:
Year's after his award winning performance as Barbs in Die Beautiful, Christian Bables is back in MMFF as he leads the star studded cast of the movie "Big Night".
This time Christian, 29, is back as Dharna, a beautician who got himself in trouble after he was put on a drug watch list by the police, having fear for his dear life he along with his friends are all searching and trying to find help for his name to be removed in the hit list.
Definitely, Christian is one of the top contender for the 47th best actor of the MMFF.
5. Daniel Padilla, Kun Maupay Man It Panahon:
A different Daniel Padilla will be seen in Kun Maupay Man It Panahon, far from the formulaic romcom and dramas that we are used to see him, this time we are going to see the side of Daniel that is ready and open to venture to different genres and more difficult roles to portray.
In Kun Maupay, Daniel play the role of Miguel, a young guy who is a survivor of the then super typhoon yolanda that struck the city of Tacloban, along with his younger sister they began their quest to find their mother and to survive in the worsening situation of the post typhoon.
Waray is the language used in the movie and it's nice to see how good and natural Daniel was able to deliver his waray-waray lines, thanks to him being a raised in Tacloban.
The eight official entries of the Metro Manila Film Festival will begin to screen on Christmas day, December 25, 2021 until January 7, 2022
