Huling Ulan sa Tag Araw follows the story of an up-and-coming priest who asked the Lord to give him a sign of what will be his last mission before his ordination. To his surprise his prayers was answered rapidly when the priest bumped on to a girl named Luisa, who works in a night club. Things started to get complicated when the priest slowly fell in love with Luisa when all he knew at first that the Lord brought the girl to him just to help her change her way of life.
Luis, the up-and-coming priest, was portrayed by Ken Chan and Luisa was played by Rita Daniella. Amazingly, these two really has a strong chemistry not all new love team has. Their on-screen ability as a couple has a lot of potential especially when they threw lines at each other. Rita for example, has a comedic character in this film and she does a pretty good job at making the audiences laugh inside the cinema with her witty unexpected punchlines and humorous movements. Known stars such as Richard Yap and Lotlot de Leon is also present here as the parents of Luis, but both of their screen time felt insufficient as they only appeared on the last 30 minutes of the movie.
Story wise, the film is far from what the trailer nor promotional materials has shown. It has a lot of deep and serious contents and discussions about religion, friends, and family ties. With its runtime, you wouldn’t felt that the film is ending as it is, indeed, an enjoyable movie, and there a few surprises you are not anticipating seeing. Not to mention the official soundtrack, which won an award, is perfect for the overall vibe of the film. So, if you are looking for a light rom-com film with a substance, Huling Ulan sa Tag Araw is “happy to serve” you!
