It is always nice to look back on our yester years in highschool where we experienced our first crush, first love, first heartbreak and The Boy Foretold by the Stars brought us back in those days with their story that is so relatable not just for the LGBT community, but for all.
The Boy Foretold by the Stars tells the story of Dominic (Adrian), queer, achiever, and a student leader who doesn’t believe in destiny but after visiting a fortune teller his destiny is bound to unfold. He then meet Luke (Keann) straight, athletic, and well he’s quite problematic when it comes to love and his studies. The two met in the boot camp and from there destiny unfolds and first love bloomed.
The movie runs for almost or more than 1 hour and 45 minutes, and what I liked about it is that in that span of time there were lots of things that happened, Direk Dolly didn’t leave any gray area in the movie all of what the audiences needed to see and to know were all given in that span of time, no questions were left, nobody was left hanging, no what if's, all are served in that 105 minutes, I felt like I watched a full blown BL Series compressed in a movie.
Story wise, it’s an A for me. That moment the movie started I was immediately hooked, there were no dull moments, it was a feel good movie that you’ll just find yourself smiling on every scene and relate yourself to it. It was a different approach a bit far from the traditional BL stories I've seen, it was more relatable, well I guess Highschool is that part of our lives that hone us to who we are today.
About the two leads, Adrian Lindayag delivered a magnificent job in this movie hands down he nailed this one and hopefully there will be more. Meanwhile, Keann Johnson was a revelation and for a newbie he really did a really great job in this movie hopefully he will be given more projects in the future.
I just love how Adrian, Keann, and the movie made us feel that feeling of first love, highschool life, and as well as our first heartbreak too.
The Boy Foretold by the Stars is the best movie to end your 2020 and start your 2021.
