The 80th season of the UAAP Volleyball Tournament kicked off awhile ago at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, the opening games in the women's volleyball were between the National University Lady Bulldogs and the Adamson Lady Falcons in the first game and the defending champions De La Salle Lady Spikers and the UST Golden Tigresses.
In the first game, the Lady Bulldogs were able to upset the Lady Falcons after four sets 25-15, 25-23, 16-25, and 25-13. NU's team captain Jaja Santiago led her squad with 16 points, coming from 11 spikes, 4 blocks, and 1 ace.
The road to title defense went tough for the Lady Spikers of La Salle after they went down the wire to beat UST 25-20, 17-25, 25-22, 15-25, and 15-8. Reigning MVP Majoy Baron was named player of the game with 19 points from 12 spikes, 5 blocks, and 2 aces, meanwhile the season had just started, but Cherry Rondina of UST exploded early after a 28 point performance in this game.
