The Debutantes
tackles the story of five girls that is bound to celebrate their debut, namely
Jenny (Jane De Leon), Candice (Michelle Vito), Shayne (Chanel Morales), Lara (Miles
Ocampo) and Kate (Sue Ramirez). A series of unfortunate events unfolds to the
five girls after Jenny’s debut as one by one the girls died as they celebrate
their 18th birthday, but who’s killing who?
The
Debutantes has a simple yet good and satisfying storyline. Yes, there were five
characters, but there weren’t any sub story or sub plots that will make the
movie complicated to understand. I love the fluidity of the story telling used
by Direk Prime, direct to the point and focused on what will happen to the
characters.
One thing I
also liked about The Debutantes is the use of colors in lighting to emphasize
what is happening in every scenes, it made the movie a visually entertaining one,
well it is not called a color horror movie without it.
The five
girls delivered a stellar performance and they were all a revelation, starting
off with Jane, Michelle, and Chanel who really did well in shocking us in
their scenes though it was quick it really did make an impact.
Sue and Miles were hands down did a really
great job in this movie, Sue owned the character of Kate though the character was
really far from her personality you can see and feel that it wasn’t Sue that
you are watching in the movie, Meanwhile, Miles subtle and the innocent attack on
the character was really impressive, the character matched with her persona
that made the character lovable until the end.
Overall
The Debutantes is a must watch movie, I could say that it is different from the
past horror movies we’ve seen from Regal it a straightforward horror movie that will not tell you anything fancy about. This horror movie may be fast paced
but, the storytelling was well stitched together and I love the ending that you
shouldn’t miss! This is one movie worthy of your money and worth giving a try
to watch.

Sad that new bands have to steal the name of old bands! The original "The Debutantes" was a Detroit based 60s all girl band.
