[26 September 2014] In an unprecedented move, wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) together with Talk ‘N Text and Sun Cellular today announced that they will start providing free Internet access to its prepaid subscriber base via their mobile phones. 

Over 66 million Filipinos gain access to the Internet

In an unprecedented move, wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) together with Talk ‘N Text and Sun Cellular today announced that they will start providing free Internet access to its prepaid subscriber base via their mobile phones. 

Through this special offer, all of the 66 million Smart Prepaid, Talk ‘N Text, and Sun Cellular Prepaid subscribers can use their data-enabled cellphones to browse through and post on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, visit their favorites websites, search on Google and Wikipedia, use navigation tools like Waze and Google Maps, book a cab or limo service via Easy Taxi and Uber, or use traffic info sites such as the MMDA's and InterAksyon's. 

They can also send and receive emails, read their favorite blogs or update their own blogs, listen to songs via Smart’s Spinnr music service, shop via online stores like Zalora, Lazada, book their travel details through sites like Skyscanner and Expedia, among other things – all without incurring data charges.

Subscribers can access the internet either through data-capable feature phones or smartphones running on Android, iOS and Windows operating systems. This special offer will be available initially until November 30, 2014.

“We are launching this initiative to provide a much larger number of Filipinos the opportunity to try out and experience the Internet, enjoy its benefits and, as we at Smart like to say, live more,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman of Smart and its parent company PLDT.
“This special offer is specifically designed to assist our prepaid subscribers who make up the bulk of our population. Many of them already have the mobile devices capable of accessing the internet but have yet to use them to go online. In this way, Smart can effectively promote digital inclusion and spread the benefits of the Internet in the fastest and most effective way possible,” he added.
Unrivaled network

Smart’s free mobile Internet offer follows the telco leader’s recent announcement that it has stepped up the deployment of its mobile internet network, to meet the growing demand for mobile data services.

Smart recently reported a 73% hike in mobile data traffic, as smartphone prices continue to fall and innovative services like SmartNet and PisoNet allow more and more Filipinos to gain access to the Internet via their mobile phones. 

“The strength and resiliency of our mobile data infrastructure enable us to make this special free internet offer available to our prepaid subscribers. Moreover, we continue to expand the reach of our network so that we can bring the internet to more communities all over the country,” said Napoleon L. Nazareno, president and CEO of Smart and PLDT. 

The PLDT Group has thus far rolled out about 90,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables all over the country which provides the transmission facilities needed to support internet services. It has also the most extensive international cable systems needed to connect the Philippines to the rest of the world. 

Internet for All 

“This special offer is in line with our advocacy of ‘Internet for All’,” said Orlando B. Vea, Smart’s chief wireless advisor. 

“It complements the affordable mobile Internet packages that Smart has been introducing over the past year. Among the latest of such innovations are PowerApp and the PisoNet service which provides 10 minutes of mobile internet access for one peso,” he explained.

To avail of the free mobile internet offer, Smart, Talk N Text and Sun Cellular subscribers must have an available airtime balance of at least one peso, or is subscribed to any load bucket or promo. They must register each day, by simply sending “FREE” to the number “9999.” 

Registration is free. They will receive an SMS confirmation upon successful registration.
Once registered, subscribers can enjoy a free data volume package of up to 30MB per

day. Data charges will however apply to peer-to-peer uploads and downloads, videos, VOIP and messaging.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Samsung officially released the Note 4 last week at their Unpacked Event at the IFA 2014 in Berlin, Germany. So what's new with the Note 4 that makes it different to it's predecessors specially with the Note 3. 

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 flaunts a 5.7 inches Super AMOLED Touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, it is almost the same size as the Note 3 but the Note 4 features a 1440x2560 resolution compared to the 1080x1920 of the Note 3 and because of that the Note 4 offers a richer -515 ppi pixel density compared to the -386 ppi pixel density of the Note 3. 

The new Note comes with a familiar 3GB of RAM with a 32GB internal memory that is expandable via Microsd card up to 128GB, it runs on android 4.4(Kitkat) with a Quadcore 2.7 Ghz Krait 450 Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. 

Samsung packs the Note 4 with a 16 megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization and a 3.7 megapixel front facing camera. aside from the improved camera quality Samsung also adds the Fingerprint Scanner and Heart rate monitor on the Note 4 that is only available on the Galaxy S5. 

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is set to be released maybe next month here in the Philippines.

The UAAP Cheerdance Competition is just around the corner and here is a look back at the performance of the Adamson Pep Squad through the years, AdU's highest finish in the Cheer dance competition was at 5th place, they were 8th twice in 2010 and 2012 could this year be the year for a podium finish that the Falcons are waiting for?.

Nokia has finally released the 3rd generation of Lumia devices under Microsoft Mobile. This is the first major event of Microsoft Mobile ever since they took over Nokia mobile arm last April. Microsoft Mobile released the Nokia Lumia 730, 735, and 830 that brings the best camera and flagship features at an affordable price.

The Nokia Lumia 730 & 735 offers almost the same specs, like both smart phones features a big 4.7 inches AMOLED touch screen that supports 720p resolution with clearblack display that is protected by a corning gorilla glass 3. Both devices comes with 8GB internal memory that is expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD card slot, it also have a 1GB of RAM. It runs on the latest Windows Phone 8.1 software, on the hardware side it runs on a 1.2 Ghz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Processor.      

The main feature of the Lumia 730 & 735 is the camera, specially the front facing one, as it features a massive 5 megapixel shooter with wide angle view feature for ultimate selfie and groupie experience without any cropped moments.  The rear camera retains the 6.7 megapixel carl zeiss optics camera with a 1/3.4 sensor size and an LED Flash that the Lumia 720 also has. The camera on the nokia Lumia 730 & 735 doesn’t support Pureview Technology, but knowing Nokia that 6.7 MP camera plus the sensors with it the image quality will be above average specially when it comes to lowlight.

The Nokia Lumia 730 & 735 comes in Orange, White, Black, and Green, both device offers the same 2200 Mah Battery. Here are the main differences of the two devices, the Lumia 730 offers a Dual Micro Sim function, while the Lumia 735 offers a Single Nano Sim with 4G/LTE Capability plus it has a Wireless Charging capability that the 730 doesn’t have but I think you can buy a wireless charging shell for it.

Nokia Lumia 830

The Lumia 830 is Nokia/ Microsoft mobile’s latest flagship device on the midrange category that features a 5 inch IPS LCD touchscreen with clear black display technology, with corning gorilla glass 3.

The Lumia 830 offers a 16GB of Internal Memory that is also expandable via MicroSD card, It features 1GB of RAM and it runs on the latest Windows Phone 8.1 software, on the hardware side it runs on a 1.2Ghz quad core cortex A7 Qualcomm Snapsdragon Processor. 

The design of the camera of the Lumia 830 resembles a smaller camera of the Lumia 1020, although they look alike the Lumia 830 only support a 10 Megapixel Carl Zeiss Optic camera with Pureview technology. The front camera of the Lumia 830 is a bit low at 0.9 megapixel compared to the massive 5 megapixel front camera of the Lumia 730 and 735.

The Lumia 830 supports wireless charging and comes with a 2200 mAh Battery, it also come in Orange, Black, White and Green Colors.

The Nokia Lumia 830, 735, 730 are expected to be launch by October here in the Philippines , prices may range from 13k for the 730, 15k for the 735 and 18k for the 830, this is just a guestimate so the prices I placed are just could be value of the phone when it comes out. 

Univesity of the East Pep Squad 2008-2013

The University of the East Pep Squad might not be one of the best squad in the Cheer Dance Competition for the past 6 years placing either 6th or 8th place. But the Recto Based Pep Squad gives out good performance every year, their 2012 and 2013 performance placed them in 6th place a bit far from their 8th place finish in 2011.

Can the Red Warriors Pep Squad finally barged intothe Podium on this years' Cheer Dance Competition?.But before that, let's see how the UE Pep Squad's performance through the years.

The issue will be available on September 4 nationwide for Php 400, it will come with the magazine and the CD of course a bit pricey but well it's a collectors issue for sure.
