BingoPlus introduces Luis Manzano as celebrity endorser

BingoPlus, the country’s first licensed online bingo game provider, has appointed popular TV host and multimedia personality Luis “Lucky” Manzano as its first celebrity endorser.

Leisure and Resorts World Corporation (LRWC) president Andy Tsui formally introduced Manzano on May 27 during the brand’s press event.

“Today, we are indeed fortunate to have Luis Manzano, also called “Lucky”, as our first celebrity endorser. Luis has earned the love and respect of so many people because of his great personality and effortless ability to make people happy. He is also known for his compassion and willingness to help those who are in need.”

Since its launch in January 2022, BingoPlus has given away P 5.1 billion in total prizes to thousands of its patrons and they do not want to stop there.

“We will launch an online community for our users so that they can communicate their game experiences and share their ideas with others,” said AB Leisure Exponent Inc. (ABLE) president Jasper Vicencio. BingoPlus is an online bingo game brand under ABLE. “We will never stop exploring new games like sports betting, casino games, and every other entertainment possibility since we aim to bring a green and interesting user experience to all the users.”

“I am very happy to have been chosen as the first celebrity endorser of BingoPlus. The ability of the brand to bring happiness to people and keep them aspiring for greater things is exactly the reason why I am in the entertainment business. Bingo Plus and I both love to bring joy to people and show them that despite challenges brought about by problems such as the pandemic, we can always choose to be mentally active and positive in our thinking. We have so many projects in store for everyone,” said Manzano.

Treats from BingoPlus are just beginning as they are set to stage BingoPlus Day, a special online concert for bingo players and the community, in June.

GLOBAL TREK COVERING SIX CONTINENTS

RUNS THROUGH MARCH 2023

INCLUDING

OCTOBER 29, CCP OPEN GROUNDS, MANILA, PHILIPPINES

GENERAL ON SALE BEGINS AT 10AM ON MAY 30

Justin Bieber today announced the final international dates for his record-setting Justice World Tour, including Manila on October 29, 2022 at CCP Open Grounds Manila, Philippines. Having sold in excess of 1.3 million tickets so far, the tour will travel to over 30 countries -- playing more than 125 shows – from May 2022 through March 2023.

Promoted by AEG Presents Asia and Ovation Productions, tickets to Justin Bieber Justice World Tour Manila are priced from PHP2,692.8 and will go on sale at 10AM local time on May 30, 2022 via Ovationtickets.com and SMTickets.com.

The upcoming dates start this month in Mexico, with a stop in Italy before continuing on to Scandinavia for shows in August.  Next up is South America, South Africa and the Middle East in September and October.  The tour will close out the year in Asia, Australia and New Zealand before moving to the UK and Europe in early 2023.  Additional dates have also been announced in Dubai, Bahrain, Sydney, New Delhi, Manila, Amsterdam, London and Dublin.

These new shows come on the heels of his 52-date 2022 North American tour, which kicked off in San Diego on February 18. Each evening promises to be a celebration for both Justin and his fans after the pandemic sidelined his 2020 tour.

Recently, Justin teamed up with director Cole Bennett for his new single +video “Honest,” featuring Don Toliver. Punchy and uptempo, “Honest” marks Justin’s first official single since “Ghost” - the anthemic finale to the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Justice - went #1 at pop radio in January, making chart history with the most #1 hits by a male solo artist in US radio history and the only fifth artist ever to reach twenty Top 5 hits on Hot 100.

Over the past year, Justin has set new marks in his highly-decorated career: “Stay” with The Kid LAROI, Justin’s eighth career Hot 100 #1 single, made him the youngest solo artist ever to reach 100 hits on the chart. “Peaches,” his certified-triple-platinum smash, made Justin the first male solo artist to debut at #1 on both the Billboard 200 album chart and Billboard Hot 100 singles chart simultaneously.

Justin Bieber’s eighth #1 album Justice has sold over eight million copies globally, amassed over 12 billion global streams, and was nominated for eight Grammys, including Album Of The Year. With an astounding 100 billion career streams and over 75 million albums sold globally, Justin reigns as one of the biggest artists in the world. Bieber is the #1 artist on YouTube with over 68 million subscribers worldwide and is the #1 artist on Spotify global with 79 million monthly listeners.

Justin – who was named Artist Of The Year at the 2021 MTV VMAs and was nominated for thirteen Billboard Music Awards - has been wowing fans nightly on the opening leg of his Justice World Tour 2022, the biggest and most ambitious tour of his career. Throughout, Justin has remained committed to using his platform for social good, bringing his ‘Justice In Action’ initiative to fans across the country, raising awareness on important issues like criminal justice reform, climate action, voter registration and much more.

The Justice World Tour, promoted by AEG Presents, is Justin’s first global outing since 2016/2017’s ‘Purpose World Tour’.  Described by The Times of London as “mesmerising”, Bieber played to 2.7 million fans over the course of his 2016-2017 run, with the finale seen by 65,000 fans at London’s British Summer Time Hyde Park festival.

PH and France National Film Agencies Sign New Cooperation Agreement

To mark the celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between France, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Centre National du Cinéma et de l'image animée or National Centre for Cinematography (CNC) of France renewed the cooperation agreement between the two agencies last May 18, 2022 at the Philippine-Singapore Pavilion during the 75th Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film.

The two national film agencies locked in on a commitment to pursue mutual participation in creating stronger film policies, exchange of education and training development, and other aspects of filmmaking from co-production, exhibition efforts, and best practices in heritage preservation.

Both parties were represented by their heads, Olivier Henrard, CNC COO representing CNC President Dominique Boutonnat, and Mary Liza Diño, FDCP Chairperson and CEO. Representatives from the FDCP and CNC, invited international filmmakers and stakeholders, and several film professionals witnessed the momentous signing.

In a short message during the signing event, Diño mentioned, “With all these aspirations to understand the structure, the system, how we can improve, and how we can elevate the industry to become more globally competitive, the updating of the agreement, that will include cooperation in animation and strengthening our archiving partnerships, will be really instrumental to us as we support more projects. Thank you so much to the CNC Team for seeing the value of this partnership. I hope that in return, the warmth and the welcoming arms of the Philippines can also lead you to our country so we can discover more collaborations together.”

FDCP Chairperson and CEO, Liza Diño signing the Cooperation Agreement.

“I’m sure that this Signing of the CNC-FDCP Agreement will be one of the peaks of the festival. We are full of optimism; we are full of energy to launch a new move in the industry in Europe and with our partnerships with the Philippines,” Henrard shared during his thanksgiving speech.

CNC COO, Olivier Henrard signing the Cooperation Agreement.

First signed in 2014 by the previous heads of their respective agencies, the Cooperation Agreement between CNC and FDCP led to both agencies supporting each other in sharing cultural promotion and were able to accomplish industry milestones together through the help of the French Embassy in the Philippines in the last eight years. The renewal of the agreement  was named as a priority during the online 9th Philippines-France Joint Economic Commission (JEC) Meeting last July 2, 2021 and was discussed further last July during the Cannes Film Festival in 2021.

Julien Ezanno, CNC Bilateral Affairs Advisor with FDCP Chair, Liza Diño (2017).

Both countries accomplished a number of milestones and achievements through this agreement. On the Philippine side, the FDCP was able to make significant breakthroughs in industry strategies in areas of film policies and archiving including exposure to the methods and systems of the CNC Film Archive in 2017, which inspired the expansion of the Philippine Film Archive. That same year, the Philippines sent its first delegation to the Marché du Film International D’Animation (MIFA) at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which led to the most significant participation of the country yet, with 53 delegates in 2021.

In 2018, CNC sent producer and former Film France COO Franck Priot during the FDCP’s International Film Conference to host a Policy Forum on Government Support on Film Productions to present Filipino stakeholders the French levy fund, which provides self-sustainable funding for the film and audiovisual industry through ticket admission and tax revenue coming from the television industry.

In 2019, Animation du Monde in Manila by the Annecy International Animation Film Festival was brought to the Philippines to help Filipino and Southeast Asian animators be equipped not only with the right tools and knowledge but also be provided with opportunities for funding and co-production of animated film projects. FDCP also partnered with Tatino Films, a French-based company, for the fruition of the Philippine version of their international film lab, Full Circle Lab. It aimed to be a global project and talent lab for Southeast Asian filmmakers and help build the Philippines as a creative hub in the region. Full Circle Lab Philippines successfully held its 4th edition last March 2022 in Cebu, Philippines.

In support of French Cinema, the FDCP has partnered with the French Embassy for the annual French Film Festival in the country as an avenue to promote contemporary forms of cinema from France and in the Philippines.

The FDCP has also supported the annual Cannes Film Festival and Marché Du Film since 2017 through consistently showcasing a delegation to participate in the market and was able to provide travel grants and assistance to selected Filipino films at Cannes. FDCP has also annually participated in the Annecy International Animated Film Festival (MIFA) and supported Filipino animation filmmakers to showcase their projects and films in the festival and its market.

Through UniFrance, the institution tasked with promoting French Cinema to the world, the FDCP also acquired distribution rights for the 2019 Cannes Film Festival winner, Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Petit Maman by Céline Sciamma.

The number of co-produced projects France and the Philippines also rose in the past 2 years. Among these are Lav Diaz’ When The Waves Are Gone, Thomas Digard’s Bionic Max, Avid Liongoren’s Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah vs. The Amazonistas, Carlo Manatad’s Whether The Weather is Fine, and Simon Jaquemet’s Electric Child, which were all granted funding from FDCP’s Incentives Programs.

Furthermore, the new cooperation agreement will pave the way for the conclusion of a co-production treaty between France and the Philippines. This awaited progress will lead to more meaningful collaborations and opportunities for respective local filmmakers.

The CNC-FDCP cooperation agreement signing is one of the highlights of the Philippine participation at the Cannes Film Festiva and Marche du Film this year. Aside from this, an impressive line-up of Filipino films, talents, and production companies are set to take Philippine Cinema to the global cinema stage.

Philippines Celebrates Return to Cannes

After two years of only virtual participation due to the pandemic, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the country's national film agency, will lead the Philippine Cinema’s return to one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, the Cannes Film Festival, and its industry counterpart, the Marché du Film in Cannes, France. The Philippine-Singapore Pavilion, in partnership with the Singapore Film Commission, also comes back to welcome delegates along Cannes’ Village International-Riviera from May 17 to 28, 2022.

As the 75th edition of Cannes this year notably coincides with the 75th celebration of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and France, the FDCP will be hosting a series of industry events to be held at the Philippines-Singapore Pavilion and around Cannes, which includes the Philippine-Singapore Daily Happy Hour, the Official Cooperation Signing between FDCP and the National Centre for Cinematography (CNC), the Full Circle Lab Philippines 2023 Launch, the Spotlight Philippines New Partner Festivals Announcement, the Philippine-Singapore Reception Day, the UniPhilippines Distribution Fund Launch, the Let's Create Together: FilmPhilippines Incentives Program Launch, the FDCP Channel Launch, and the Cannes Producers Network Opening Cocktails officially sponsored by the Philippines.

“It is truly an honor to jumpstart the FDCP's mission of bringing the best of Philippine Cinema to the rest of the world, after two years of hiatus because of the pandemic, in Cannes. This year’s participation is extra special, for the 75th edition of Cannes coincides with the 75th celebration of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and France. We have prepared a lineup of events for the festival's duration to showcase and promote the country’s delegation and FDCP’s programs,” said FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño.

“We are proud and excited that we are going to Cannes with a large delegation of both renowned and emerging filmmakers who are ready to put their projects out there, are open to collaborating and networking with other film professionals and companies, and gaining more knowledge that they can bring home to elevate our local film industry,” she added.

FDCP will launch the UniPhilippines Office as its official international distribution arm dedicated to promoting Filipino films abroad through its assistance, partnership, and incentive programs for filmmakers, producers, and distributors, along with its Distribution Fund.

Philippine Cinema and the industry are also proudly represented by two films (one in competition and one in Cannes Classics), three film projects, five producers, and 16 production companies.

Japan-France-Philippines co-production film Plan 75 by Hayakawa Chie has been selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes. Co-produced by Filipino producer Alemberg Ang and by Filipino production company Fusee, headed by Will Fredo, the film follows the story of three characters—an elderly woman whose means of survival is vanishing, a pragmatic salesman for Plan 75 (a fictional government program), and a young Filipino laborer—choose between life and death.

The restored film Itim by veteran filmmaker Mike de Leon will have its world premiere in the 2022 Classics section of Cannes. Itim is about a young man who returns to his provincial home and gets involved with a woman who is ultimately possessed by her sister’s spirit, paving the way to revealing the painful truth about her unsolved disappearance. Filipina actress Dolly de Leon will also be present at the festival as part of the cast of Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund’s upcoming film Triangle of Sadness, a contender for the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

For projects in development, the Cinéfondation, meanwhile, is a foundation backed by the Cannes Film Festival, which is created to inspire and support the next generation of filmmakers. It is divided into three parts: The Selection, The Residence, and The Atelier.

Filipino director Arvin Belarmino, with his feature film project Ria, was selected to participate in the 44th Cinéfondation – Residence du Festival Programme in partnership with the CNC and will be participating at the Residence Pitch Session during the Festival.

Film projects Sam by E del Mundo and producer Pamela Reyes and The Beer Girl in Yangon by Sein Lyan Tun and Indonesian producer John Badalu, and Filipino co-producer Alemberg Ang will take part in the L'Atelier de la Cinéfondation of Cannes. This initiative helps filmmakers gain access to international financing and speed up the production process of their projects.

The Marché du Film, the business side of the Cannes Film Festival, is where film industry professionals gather to discover new film projects and gain experience in one of the biggest film markets in the world. FDCP, an international presenting partner of the Marché du Film, has selected five Filipino producers for the Producers Network from May 19 to 23.

This year, the film market features the Philippines as its Spotlight Country and, as such, will be hosting the Cannes Producers Network Breakfast Meetings on May 23. The selected Spotlight Producers are Joyce Bernal and E del Mundo of Spring Films, Inc., Carlo Valenzona of Catchlight Pictures Indonesia, Pamela Reyes of Create Cinema Inc., and Cecilia Mejia of Remedias Productions, LLC.

Meanwhile, the participating production companies featured in the Philippine Pavilion are Bullet Manila, Cinematografica Films, Clayshop Inc., Create Cinema Inc., Daluyong Studios, Feelmaking Productions, FUSEE, Mandala Video and Event Productions, Nathan Studios, Spring Films, TBA Studios, The IdeaFirst Company Inc., The Producer’s Asia, URSA Entertainment, and Visioncapture Media. Titles carried by the Filipino producers this year included Hey Joe by Avel Sunpongco and Walang KaParis by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo.

The 75th Cannes Film Festival will be held onsite from May 17 to 28, while the Marché du Film will be from May 17 to 25.
