 With Metro Manila retaining its Alert Level 1 status this April, the UAAP Board has finally decided to let the fans inside the venue starting April 5. 

Although the league will still be observing limited capacity and minimum health protocols, fans needs to present their vaccination cards to be allowed inside the venue which is the Mall of Asia Arena. 

The first four games days of the UAAP season 84 were all audience less and with the 6th man being allowed inside the venue I think this will be a booster for most teams as they will hear the crowds chant and cheers for them.

#UAAP84 Day 3: La Salle knocks out Tamaraws to stay undefeated

The FEU Tamaraws loses back to back games after they failed to charge back against the De La Salle Green Archers 65-75. 

Although the Tams were able to keep the game close in the first half, they really losses the charge going in the middle of the second half as La Salle already build up a wall and dominated them specially in their bench out put which was 20 as compared to 33 of the Green Shirts. 

The Morayta based squad is still looking for the right rhythm in these defeats. 

LJay Gonzales came out short despite a strong 17 point output, Emman Ojuola provided 13 points and 12 rebounds for the now 1-2 Tamaraws. 

Converge commits to support UP Maroons

 

The connection is strong between the University of the Philippines Men’s Basketball Team (UPMBT) and Converge ICT Solutions Inc. as they inked a multi-season deal ahead of the 84^th season of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

 

The Fighting Maroons are among the top bets expected to go all the way in UAAP Season 84.

 

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Mr. Dennis Anthony Uy expressed confidence in the Diliman squad, saying, “Given the caliber and talent of these young guys under Coach Goldwin [Monteverde], I expect no less than a Final Four finish.”

This is why we decided to continue our partnership with the team for UAAP Seasons 84 and 85. This partnership goes beyond the court,” Mr. Uy added.

 

UPMBT team manager Atty. Agaton Uvero expressed appreciation for the assistance and support that Converge ICT Solutions has provided not just to the team but also to the UP community.

Converge started supporting the UPMBT in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. Besides support for the basketball team, the telecommunication service provider supplied free internet connection to UP’s varsity student-athletes and other UP students who transitioned to remote learning because of the pandemic.

#UAAP84 Day 2: Ateneo Fends Off Charging Tamaraws.

 

The FEU Tamaraws goes down 1-1 after they looses their charge in their match against the Ateneo Blue Eagles 70-79 in the second day of the UAAP Season 84 

The Tams went off a hot start with an early 8 point lead early in the opening period, but the Blue Eagles blazed off in the latter part of the opening game and they never looked back again. They even established a 20 point advantage in an onslaught on the third period giving the Tams a hard time to bounce back in the final period, although they came as close as 6 points in the last few minutes of the final period.  

Dave Ildefonso and Tyler Tio both scored 17 points for the defending champs with Tyler scoring all his points in he third period alone. 

Rhonjay Abarrientos led the charge again for the Tamaraws with 16 points, Emman Ojuola added 15 points and 17 rebounds, while Royce Alforque scored 12 points as the Tams goes 1-1.

#NCAA97 Day 2: Arellano, Mapua scores win number 1

 

The Arellano Chiefs rallied past the San Sebastian Golden Stags to get to a 65-63 victory to open their season 97 campaign. 

Although Justin Arana wasn't able to finish the game because of an injury, he was able to lead the Chiefs with 16 points and 15 rebounds, Jordan Sta Ana added 14 points. Meanwhile, Camilluz Altamirano led the way for the Stags, JM Calma and Ken Villapando added 13 and 10 points respectively.

The Mapua Cardinals soared high in their first game as they beat down the EAC Generals 73-67. 

Adrian Nocum breaks out for the Cardinals with 20 points, Brian Lacap added 14 points. Kris Gurtiza on the other hand led the Generals with 21 points, Allen Liwag and Marwin Taywan added 16 and 13 points respectively.

#NCAA97:Day 1: Letran, San Beda Takes Opening Day Victory.

 

The Letran Knights averted an almost opening upset after they fend off season 97 hosts CSB Blazers 67-63. 

The Blazers opened the game strong with an early 16-10 lead over the Knights, although the Knights were able to bounce back strong in the second period the Blazers were still able to finish the first half on top at 33-30. 

The green shirts kept their lead up until the third period, but going to the final period the Blazers collapsed and struggled with both their defense and offense, giving the chance for the Knights to capitalize with an 18-8 output to steal the win away from the Taft based squad. 

Transferee Rhenz Abando made his presence felt early as he led teh Knights with 19 points and 8 rebounds, Veteran Knight Fran Yu added 12 points. Meanwhile, AJ Benson led the way for the Blazers with 16 points, Carlo Lim added 10 points.

In the second game, last year's runners up San Beda Red Lions fended off the gritty Lyceum Pirates 84-76. 

The Red Lions were able to control the game in the first half, leading 25-18 in the first period and extending their lead as to a 41-27 at the end of the second and even as high as 20 points in the third period, the Pirates came knocking in the fourth period trimming the lead down to as low as 7, good thing the Red Shirts were able to keep the Pirates at bay as the game ends. 

 Ralph Penuela and JB Bahio led the roar of the Red Lions with 12 points each, Tony Ynot added 10. Meanwhile, Enoch Valdez top scored for Lyceum with 22 points, Renzo Navarro and Jerwyn Guinto added 15 and 10 points respectively.

#UAAP84: Tams Open Season 84 Behind Abarrientos Stellar Debut.

 

The FEU Tamaraws charged strong in their opening game against the young UST Growling Tigers 76-51. 

The Tams started out strong early in the game, with their defense and offense working well they were able to establish a huge lead early in the opening quarter at 22-9, going to the second quarter RJ Abarrientos spearheaded the hot offense of FEU as the lead ballooned to a 30 point deficit to end the first half with a commanding 47-18 lead. 

Going in to the second half the Tams slowed down a bit that gave the chance for UST to at least trim down the deficit down to just 20 points in the latter part of the fourth quarter, but still it wasn't enough to cool down the offense and defense of the raging Tamaraws as they were able to maintain a 20 plus point advantage to take home the first win of the season. 

Veteran rookie, Rhonjay Abarrientos had a stellar debut in this game with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists to lead the charge of the Tamaraws. Bryan Sajonia added 12 points (that's 3 out of 5 in the three point range), 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. 

On the side of the Growling Tigers, it was John Fontanilla who kept them afloat with 19 points, Nicael Cabanero added 12 points.   

 

In the second game the NU Bulldogs fends off the Adamson Falcons 71=69, meanwhile the Ateneo Blue Eagles emerged victorious against UP in the battle of Katipunan 90-81, while La Salle escaped past UE 71-66

A few more days and it's almost game time, but before the action returns we will first meet the final line up of the 10 schools participating in the 97th Season of the National Collegiate Athletics Association of the Philippines. 

Juan Carlos Galano: The Fitness Jock

Aside from the series the he did for a fast-food chain, another thing that bolstered Juan Carlos Galano’s fame is when became one of the newest faces of Bench Body.  

Juan Carlos was introduced in 2021 as one of the brands newest ambassadors for the underwear line and well I can say that he is by far the hottest and most striking guy to don those undies whether boxer briefs or just those tight whites Juan Carlos definitely looked very stunning in every photo that they released.

But how does Juan Carlos maintain his fit and lean body?  

For this athletic stud, being fit and active is part of his daily life, aside from regularly going to the gym to work out, Juan Carlos also engage himself in different sports activity such as swimming, basketball, boxing, and football to keep himself more active.  

Despite his now hectic schedule, he always finds time to get the much-needed rest he needed, because for him it is very important to keep his body in shape and sound for his upcoming projects.

10. How do you take care of your body?  

“I regularly workout, that’s one and di ako pwede magsalita na “Ah kumpleto tulog ko” ganun hahaha kasi guilty ako dun (Pagpupuyat) ano ko puyatero ganon kaya siguro isa pa yan sa dahilan kung bakit nagkabreakout ako recently, but yeah nocturnal ako pero I try to get as much rest as possible basta importante ang sleep ko minimum of 5 to 8 hours, after a long work out I need to sleep."

 

11. What is your favorite and least favorite workout routine?  

“Sa program ko kasi ano eh may kasamang legs, parang full body workout sya pero combination of legs and upper body, so either you are working the quads or hamstrings that day, so hamstrings then sa upper body push split so mga push-ups, bench press ganun tapos the next day kabaliktaran naman hamstrings then puro pull work out.  

 

Ako mas fond ako sa mga push workouts as in pwede mong ilabas yuung gigil mo kapag nagbubuhat ka, ang nilalagya ko kasing workout song mga country na rock or yung vikings na series yung mga rituals nila dun, para malabas mo yung gigil mo."  

 

11. What about diet?  

"With what I eat, ngayon flexible dieting na as compared before kasi nung tinatry kong ireach talaga yung goal ko before for upcoming roles I tried to maintain my body as lean as possible, so medyo naka deficit ako ng matagal tagal around 8 weeks, yung calorie count ko nasa 1800 so yung maintenance ko nasa 2000 to 2500 dapat.

Tapos mga kinakain ko puro chicken breast haha sobrang meated, gulay, talbos ng kamote, syempre local tayo at mahal ang gulay so I tried to use whatever is available."

 

11. How about your water in take?  

"I tried to keep myself hydrated most times, siguro in a day as much as possible maka 8 to 10 glasses ako"

13. How about skin care? How do you maintain that fair skin tone.  

“Skin care ko lang facial wash yun lang haha, minsan nga di pa ko nakakapag facial wash in the evening eh minsan kasi talaga pag pagod na tinatamad na, kailangan ko talagang baguhin yung routine na yun.

I should be more conscious with my skin care, kasi syempre sabi nga kumbaga investment mo yun sa sarili mo and diba wala namang masama kung gagawin mo yung skin care to look young pagdating mo ng mga 30’s na, kumbaga it will pay off, sa ngayon di mo pa makikita yung results pero pagdating mo ng mid 30’s to 40’s makikita mo baby face ka pa rin diba.”  

14. Favorite part of your body?  

“Favorite part of my body, I would say shoulders tsaka abs. Syempre yung abs ang hirap iworkout, ang hirap imaintain, ang hirap palabasin yung abs yun lang masasabi ko grabe kailangan mo talaga ng strict diet and sa shoulders kasi syempre broader shoulders yun yung pinagwoworkoutan talaga."

14. Part of your body that you think needs some more improvement?  

"What needs work I would say yung calves ko."
