Kapuso Primetime Gem, Barbie Forteza, is set to join forces with Comedy Star for All Seasons, Eugene Domingo, in Netflix’s upcoming film Kontrabida Academy.
Kontrabida Academy follows the story of Gigi (Barbie Forteza), an assistant manager at a Korean restaurant whose life suddenly takes a downward turn. From dealing with her shopaholic mother’s mounting debt crisis, to discovering her boyfriend’s infidelity, and enduring constant belittlement from her boss despite her hard work—Gigi finds herself at her breaking point.
Then comes Mauricia (Eugene Domingo), a fiery red-haired primera kontrabida straight out of the teleserye world. She convinces Gigi to shed her “goody two-shoes” image and embrace her inner villain. But how exactly does one become a true kontrabida? Enter the Kontrabida Academy, a one-of-a-kind school where every slap, smirk, and sinister laugh is studied to perfection, shaping students into the most unforgettable villains in teleserye history.
Upon entering the academy, Gigi begins her journey to becoming a true kontrabida. She may have mastered the art of being fierce and unapologetic, but her genuine kindness never fades. In the end, Gigi realizes that being a kontrabida isn’t about being evil instead it’s about finding the courage to stand up for yourself. After all, anyone can be both a bida and a kontrabida when the situation calls for it.
Directed by Chris Martinez, Kontrabida Academy features a powerhouse cast led by Barbie Forteza and Eugene Domingo, alongside Jameson Blake, Xyriel Manabat, Ysabel Ortega, Yasser Marta, Myrtle Sarossa, Michael De Mesa, and Ms. Carmina Villarroel. The film also boasts special appearances from the country’s most iconic primera kontrabidas—Gladys Reyes, Jean Garcia, Dimples Romana, Mylene Dizon, Baron Geisler, Pinky Amador, Rez Cortez, Ms. Odette Khan, and Ms. Celia Rodriguez—along with Jaime Fabregas and Ms. Susan Africa.
Kontrabida Academy premieres exclusively on Netflix this September 11.
