Netflix Philippines is set to brighten up the summer with its newest original series, Happy Crush, premiering tomorrow, April 24, 2025.
This charming romantic comedy marks the highly anticipated first on-screen pairing of Kelvin Miranda and Maymay Entrata, joined by Zach Castaneda, who completes the trio at the heart of the story.
The eight-episode series follow the story of Carla (Maymay Entrata), a rising celebrity who retreats to her hometown Barrio Lourdes in Pampanga during the COVID-19 pandemic after the passing of her mother. Returning home, Carla finds herself surrounded by old memories and familiar faces, including her high school barkada.
As she reconnects with her roots, Carla is pulled back into the nostalgia of her youth—especially when she crosses paths with Ayon (Zach Castaneda), her ultimate crush, and Migs (Kelvin Miranda), the quiet, dependable best friend who’s always been there... even when she didn’t notice.
Old feelings resurface, secrets come to light, and Carla must choose between the fantasy she once chased and the love that may have been there all along.
Meanwhile, Director Carlo Enciso Catu recently took to social media to share the heartfelt journey behind the project — a series that has been years in the making. He wrote on his Facebook Post:
“Mahaba-haba ang naging byahe ng material na ito. Early 2020, hiningan ako ni Ms. Bianca ng tatlong original titles. Isa ang Happy Crush sa mga iyon, pero hindi ito ang napili.
Years later, habang kasama ko ang kapatid ko na mag-window shopping, nag-iimagine ng home renovations kahit salat sa work and project, tumawag si Ms. Bianca — nahanapan daw niya ng producer ang Happy Crush!
Agad kong sinimulan ang pagbuo ng mundo ni Carla, isang fifteen-year-old na dalagita na may ultimate crush, na naniniwalang kahit anong mangyari, sila at sila pa rin ang magkakatuluyan.
Pero kagaya ng pagdadalaga ni Carla, it takes a village for me to write this series. Eventually, nakasama ko ang kapatid ko sa pagbuo ng Barrio Lourdes at ibang mga karakter nito. Naging madali ang proseso naming dalawa dahil na rin siguro, pareho kaming lumaki sa totoong Barrio Lourdes, sa may Angeles, Pampanga — which became the main inspiration for this project.
Yung panahong parang ang bagal lang ng galaw ng mundo. Yung panahong ngiti lang ni crush, ayos na ang lahat.”
Catu’s post offers a nostalgic and personal glimpse into the creative process that the series went through that help shaped the fictional world of Happy Crush.
The story isn't just about young love; it’s also a tender ode to adolescence, simplicity, and the little things that once made everything feel magical.
Rounding out the cast are Moi Bien, Andre Miguel, Peewee O'Hara, John Arcenas, Gaye Piccio, and Jan Silverio — bringing even more color and charm to this coming-of-age love story set against the backdrop of Barrio Lourdes.
