National Heroes Retrospective Film Festival Celebrates Stories of Philippine National Heroes

FILM FESTIVAL CELEBRATES STORIES OF PH NAT’L HEROES

Learn more about the Philippines’ colorful history and discover the stories of Filipino historical figures by watching biopics during the National Heroes Retrospective Film Festival. Organized by the Shangri-La Plaza in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the Festival happens until June 22, 2019 at Shangri-La Plaza’s Red Carpet Cinema 4, which coincided with national hero Jose Rizal's 158th birth anniversary last June 19.

In celebration of Sandaan: the One Hundred Years of Philippine Cinema, six (6) films that champion different Philippine national heroes and their contributions to the country will be screened during the Festival. These are “Ang Kababaihan ng Malolos” directed by Sari Dalena and Kiri Dalena, “Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli” directed by Gil Portes, “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo” directed by Enzo Williams, “Jose Rizal” directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” and “Heneral Luna” directed by Jerrold Tarog.

Mark Oblea Experiments with New Sound in Latest Single "Ain't It Lovely"

Singer-songwriter Mark Oblea is back with a new sound with his latest single 'Ain't It Lovely.'

Ain't It Lovely delves further into Oblea's exploration of the alternative pop genre, being a love song that features more of a folk sound than his previous outings. His rendition of Paraluman's classic song 'Tabi' has garnered over 3.7 million plays on the streaming platform Spotify.

Talking more about the song, which is written and produced by fellow Universal Records artist Fern., he says "I've always wanted to do a song such as this - one that gives off an indie romantic vibe. And at the same time, I want to offer something new to my listeners, as I explore new vocal styles and with this being my first original English track."

Ain't It Lovely is certainly not a track to miss, with its romantic vibe and a sound that will resonate with today's generation.

Alaska treats Jakarta-bound Jr. NBA 2019 All Stars to an Alaska Aces Basketball Clinic

Alaska Milk Corporation hosted a send-off basketball clinic for the 2019 Jr. NBA All-Stars of Jr. NBA Philippines 2019 presented by Alaska on June 12 at the Alaska Aces practice facility, the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong. The All-Stars and the Jr. NBA Coaches of the Year will represent the country in the first-ever Jr. NBA Global Championship Asia Pacific Selection Camp at Universitas Pelita Harapan in Jakarta, Indonesia. Alaska Power Camp Director Jeffrey Cariaso and Head Coach Tony dela Cruz headed the short basketball camp, which served as an added preparation for the 10 All-Stars who will compete against other Jr. NBA All-Stars from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. The Jakarta camp will culminate with the selection of 10 boys and 10 girls who will represent Asia Pacific in the Jr. NBA Global Championship at Orlando, Florida in August. Also present at the basketball clinic to share their Jr. NBA stories and tips were Jr. NBA All-Stars Alumni Kenji Duremdes, Echo Laure and Rhayyan Amsali. Alaska Aces Jeron Teng, Sonny Thoss, Simon Enciso, Ping Exciminanio and Chris Banchero also gave their support to the young athletes.
