100 Tula Para Kay Stella tells the story of Fidel (JC Santos) and of course Stella (Bela Padilla), the two met back in 2004 in their freshmen year, from then and there Fidel instantly felt that Stella is the one for him but Fidel was struck with a speech defect that hinders him to profess his love for Stella that they ended up as best buddies in college.

First of all I would like to say that JC Santos and Bela Padilla delivered so great in this movie, they owned their respective characters and gave justice to it. 

The movie started good it gives that nostalgic feeling back in the hay days of Friendster, Pre Smartphone era, the songs specially the Rivermaya song “241”. I also love how the movie gave away so many feelings and emotions to the audiences especially the way that Bela and JC delivered it was so real.

It is not the typical hugot movie you usually see, the hugot was so deep that it will let you experience what the characters are feeling. The movie surprised me, especially in the last part and it’s for you to find out.

All in all the movie is a must watch, if Kita Kita gave you kilig with comedy this one will give you kilig with tears. 100 Tula Para Kay Stella is set to be shown in the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino starting August 16-22 in all cinemas nationwide starring of course Bela Padilla and JC Santos, directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, from Viva Films.

Review: Ang Mananangal Sa Unit 23-B

Ang Mananangal Sa Unit 23-B

Genre: Romance, Horror

Ang Mananangal Sa Unit 23-B tackles the unusual love story between a Mananangal named Jewel (Cenon) and the mortal Nico (Del Rosario). The two lived on the same floor of a tenement where they met and eventually became close friends until they felt more than that, that causes trouble for Jewel as she turns into mananangal every time she feels any sexual tensions between her and Nico.

The movie is a modern day adaptation of the classic mananangal story that we grew up with. The movie was polished and it’s not the typical aswang movie that we know it has taste and it has class, it moved the aswang genre to a different level.

AMU32B is actually very entertaining and very engaging, there were no dull and draggy moment in the movie as it will really engage you and will make you think and ask “What happened next”. The movie is also aesthetically good and the visuals are just right not too overkill.

One thing I also liked about the movie is that it tackles gender issues by using the mananangal as the avenue to open the issue of Why women can’t have choices, why do some women are trapped in the norm of women being just women in the society. For me the message of the movie is that women are also free to express their sexuality and that they have options and that they should break free from what the society is dictating.

When it comes to the portrayal of the characters, I really applaud Ryza Cenon for a job well done, she delivered the goods in the best way she can and I just loved how she made one scene gratifying and blissful. This movie shows that Ryza is more than that Kabit in that afternoon show. Meanwhile, Martin Del Rosario delivered a subtle performance that was very effective.

Lastly, I love how the way the movie had an open ending as it gives the audiences the chance to put up their own ending through their imagination.

Over all "Ang Mananangal Sa Unit 23-B" is a must watch this coming Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino starting this August 16-22 in theaters Nationwide!

James Reid is the new Pedro Penduko!

 

Viva Artists Agency officially announced at the History Con at the World Trade Center in Pasay City last week that James Reid is set to reprise the iconic comic book hero “Pedro Penduko” created by Franciso V Coching on the big screen.

Last year VRJ Books unveiled the newest Pedro Penduko book written by Regene Estolatan under Epik Studios entitled “Pedro Penduko: The Legend Begins” at the 35^th Manila International Book Fair with the special participation of James Reid in the book launch that already gave a hint that he wasn’t only the peg for the new look of Pedro, but also he will be the one playing the role.

“Pedro Penduko: The Legend Begins” is a reimagined version of Pedro Penduko, it will be far from the past Penduko Movie as it will have a modern twist on it, focusing on the character of Peter Harris, who was a Fil-am boy who went back in the Philippines to search for his mother, only to find out that he is in for a supernatural adventure to track down his biological mother.

The 5^th “Pedro Penduko” movie is set for 2018, to be directed by Dan Villegas. In the meantime, James Reid is also set to work for another movie with Nadine Lustre under Viva Films that is targeted to premiere this year.

URCC XXX: Results

Celebrating their 15^th year and being the oldest MMA competition in the ASEAN, the Universal Reality Combat Championship successfully concluded their 30^th fight night dubbed as the URCC XXX held at the Araneta Coliseum last August 12.

There were 24 fighters in the roster, 8 fighters are fighting for four title bouts, and there are also 8 fighting for two exhibition matches.

Fritz Biagtan went home victorious and still the Lightweight Champion after he batters his gritty opponent Solomon Dultra after the referee stopped the fight as Dultra wasn’t able to contain the solid hits of Biagtan in the 3:55 mark of the final round.

In the second title bout, the Korean MMA heartthrob Do Gyeom Lee swept away not only with the hearts of the girls but also with the Featherweight title after he submit his opponent Jojo Orao via Rear Naked Choke early in the first round.

Derrick Easterling dominates the infamous Jiar Castillo after he knocked out the latter in the 1:16 minute mark of the second round of their fight.

In the main event, Chris Hofmann successfully defended his middleweight title after he beats up his challenger Robert Sothmann via referee stoppage 4:44 of the first round due to heavy strikes.

 

In the first exhibition match, Kiko Matos teaches Billy Jack Sanchez a lesson after the former beats up and submits the latter in their match that ended with a rear naked choke in the 2:51 mark of the first round.

In the second exhibition match, it was a three vs three match between team Estroso and team Gatmaitan, where in Estroso emerge victorious as Gatmaitan succumbs to a 1 vs 3 match as two of Gatmaitan’s members were knocked off early in the battle.

In the regular fights, Ernesto Montilla defeated Nilo Vidal in the first match via a Rear Naked Choke in the 3:12 mark of round 2, John Outlaw Adajar submits Jet Hermida in the 1:42 mark of the second round of their fight.

Caloy Baduria also submits his opponent Mark Palomar via rear naked choke early in the first round of their match, Mark Striegl made a successful comeback in the URCC as he easily dispatches former URCC Andrew Benibe through submission via Americana 0:53 of the first round making it the fastest match to end that night.

#NCAA93 Day 14: San Beda beats Mapua, San Sebastian feasts on Blazers, Knights frustrates Altas

The San Beda Red Lions continues their winning streak after beating the Mapua Cardinals 66-55.

The Red Lions entered the game roaring as they went on a rampage scoring 23 points in the opening quarter against the 6 points of Mapua.

In the second period the Cardinals were able to recover after they cut the lead down to a 20-31 scoring to end the first half.

San Beda continues their dominance in the third period after they again extend their lead up 51-32 at the end of the third and even extended it to a 25 point deficit in the final period.

Donald Tankoua had 11 points and 16 rebounds for the Red Lions, Christian Bunag had 20 points and 18 rebounds for the Cardinals.

 

The San Sebastian Golden Stags feasted on the hapless College of Saint Benilde Blazers after a dominant 101-71 win.

It was a complete dominance by San Sebastian throughout the game not letting the Blazers get close nor cut their lead down.

Michael Calisaan scored 20 points in this game, while Alfren Gayosa had 15 and Allyn Bulanadi added 13 points.

On the side of the Blazers, rookie Unique Naboa led his team with 17 points, Edward Dixon added 15 points, while Clement Leutcheu had 12 points.

 

 

The Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights frustrates the Perpetual Help System Altas after escaping past with a 63-61 victory thanks to Bong Quinto.

The first half was fully controlled by the Knights, taking a 14-7 lead in the opening quarter and keeping the lead at 24-19 to end the first half.

The Altas build up their momentum after cutting the lead of the Knights down to 36-39 at the end of the third, going to the final period the Altas were successful in snatching the lead at 40-39 and even extended it to 47-43.

The Altas were on hold of the lead until the last two minutes of the game, but JP Calvo and Bong Quinto got other things in mind after they delivered the Knights to the victory.

 Bong Quinto top scored for the Knights with 14 points, Rey Nambatac had double-double 12 points and 15 rebounds, Jerrick Balanza also scored 12 points and JP Calvo had 11 points.

 On the side of the Altas, Prince Eze scored 18 points with 16 rebounds.

Coming from the success of their Metro Manila Film Festival entry last year, Joshua Garia and Julia Barretto is back on the big screen as they star in Star Cinema's latest movie offering "Love You To The Stars And Back" written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone, the movie is set to premiere this August 30 in cinemas nationwide.

 

#NCAA93 Day 13: Lyceum upsets Generals in their homecourt

The Lyceum Pirates escape past the gritty EAC Generals 97-93 to remain unscathed at 7-0.

It was a head to head battle between the two squads as their game went high scoring, finishing the opening quarter 27-24 in favor of the Pirates. Going to the second period both squads continue to slug it on the court as the first half ended with a tight 52-49 score in favor still of Lyceum.

Going to the second half, the Generals doesn't want to take an upset ax in their homecourt as they continue to chase down Lyceum, still the lattter was able to keep the lead to end the third period 77-71.

In the final period, the Generals pushed Lyceum to the end as they were able to closed in at 82-83, but the Pirates were able to extend their lead again at 88-82, going to the final minute of the ball game EAC was able to cut down the lead of Lyceum to 93-95, but Jaycee Marcelino was able to seal the win for the Pirates.

Jaycee Marcelino led the scoring for the Pirates along with CJ Perez as they both scored 20 points. Meanwhile, Francis Munsayac scored a season high 26 points for the Generals.

Miss World Philippines officially introduced their 35 lovely beauties with a purpose in a grand press presentation held at the New World Hotel in Makati. The 35 beauties paraded in their swimsuit by Bench, and as early as now early favorites are being eyed by the press and also the fans, there’s a courtside reporter, an actress, a sister of a former Miss World delegate, an international pageant winner, and lots of crossover candidates and of course the newbies in the pageant scene, check them out in the video posted.
