In 2012 Google bought Motorola for$12.5 Billion, and After almost two years of acquisition, Motorola still struggle to get back on the Smartphone Race, Though they released the Highly talked about Moto X that lets you customize the looks of your phone thru the Moto Maker (That is only available in the US) It still doesn't made any impact on the Sales of Motorola even the release of the Moto G was not that highly publicize.
Meanwhile last year Chinese Computer Giant Lenovo's CEO Yang Yuangqing expresses his willingness to bring the Lenovo Smartphones in the US, But the big Problem was that Lenovo was not a known brand in the US, and with this Google-Motorola-Lenovo Deal, I think Lenovo's chances of penetrating the US Smartphone Market will be possible since according to a recent survey Motorola holds 7% of Smartphone User in the US that's still big considering Motorola lie lowed for the Past years.
With the Deal, Google is only selling the Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for $2.91 Billion, But still all the 17000 patents of Motorola will be kept by Google, meaning Lenovo will only be able to use the Facilities of Motorola, the Brand name, and maybe some features, But Google still has the License over some features that is patented with Motorola specially on the Software department. It's like Microsoft buying Nokia's Mobile Arm but still Nokia is an Independent Company
After the Deal closes Lenovo's CEO said that they will keep using Motorola as the Brand Name for their products in the North and South America, and considering bringing it to China and of course No one will be lay off from their job as he promised to keep the main depot of Motorola with almost 4300 employees. We will see more of this deal in the coming months so let's see if this deal will bring better improvements to Motorola.
