Huwag Kang Lalabas is a horror trilogy which all stories are all unified in the literal notion that nobody is allowed to go out. The parts are titled “Kumbento”, “Bahay”, and “Hotel”. All of them are interconnected with a wind chime that is present in all parts, which is not cleared, however, as to why this is the symbol used to link all stories with one another.
“Kumbento” stars Beauty Gonzales, “Bahay” stars Aiko Melendez, and “Hotel” stars Kim Chui. Present also is Elizabeth Oropesa, Bembol Roco and Joaquin Domagoso among others. With this kind of casting, it should’ve had a more successful run if only all stories are properly executed. Because from my own perspective, story wise, generally, all 3 parts lacks clear direction on what it is trying to tell. The narratives are all chaotic and complicated. Though, visually, the cinematography of all 3 stories is great, even the color grading, which adds a sense of mystery and horrific mood.
Overall, Huwag Kang Lalabas is a disappointing horror trilogy. It does not have the power that Shake, Rattle and Roll has. It is a snooze fest that lacks empathy and connection with one another.
