In the entertainment industry success always equate with luck and right timing, many rose to fame because they peaked at the right time and they were given a good project. Many artists wait for that elusive big break, they say try and try until you succeed and that’s what our Guy for the Month of July did before getting that big break.
This month of July we are getting to know Kelvin Miranda more in our 2-part Guy of the Month feature, from where he began to becoming one of the rising leading men in the industry today.
Born Kelvin Manalili Miranda, the 22-year-old actor started out in showbizness back in 2016 as a bit player for an MMFF movie back then, then he played support roles in different movies of Regal Films Namely Haunted Forest, The Hopeful Romantic, Walwal, the most recent was D’Ninang in January of 2020. (I still remember meeting him first time at the back stage of a mall show for Regal’s Haunted Forest back in 2017)
Kelvin got his first taste of success when he landed his first ever major role in the Netflix produced movie “Dead Kids” in 2019 where he played the role of Sta Maria the main protagonist in the movie that was directed by Mikhail Red and he co-starred along with Sue Ramirez, Vance Larena, Markus Paterson, and Khalil Ramos. His main role debut gained so much positive feedbacks both from reviewers and on social media.
After that Kelvin became more visible on TV, especially on GMA Network, he appeared on different drama anthologies like Magpakailanman.
When the entertainment industry was shut down due to the pandemic in March 2020 many think that it would be difficult for it to comeback and resume because of the quarantine restrictions imposed by the national government, but slowly the industry came back despite the restrictions and in October of that year Kelvin Miranda was introduced as GMA’s newest Leading man.
“The Lost Recipe” the biggest TV project for Kelvin that led the way for him to be one of the Kapuso Network’s prime leading men, the series along with Mikee Quintos became a hit and ran successfully from January-March of 2021.
What has changed after getting that big break as the newest leading man?
“Yung tingin ko sa sarili ko, kasi sobrang nagulat ako sa mga nangyare. Hindi ako sanay sa treatment na nararanasan ko ngayon, pati sa pananamit, sa pananalita ko, kasi kailangan mong ibagay sa branding mo yung ginagawa mo eh importante sya and medyo nakakatakot kasi konting pagkakamali mo parang napupuna agad hindi kagaya dati na kahit anong gawin ko sa story (Instagram) ko wala pa silang nasasabi ngayon lahat nakikita na nila, ang laki ng adjustment ko sa nangyare kahit sa labas”
Starting out in showbiz, what are your most memorable or most unforgettable experience as a newbie actor?
“Siguro yung first experience ko, yung audition ko na talagang nagbabasa yung kili-kili ko sa nerbyos, nanginginig ako hindi ko alam gagawin ko. Yung mga ganung feeling na kapag nagoaudition ako ngayon may kaba pa din naman pero iba noon, pag pasok ko palang sa pintuan nanginginig na yung buong katawan ko, nagpapanic ako sa nangyayare, ayoko na gusto ko na magback out aad, hangang sa nakasanayan na”.
“Yung pangalawang hindi ko makalimutan yung trabaho na mismo kasi hindi ko alam yung gagawin sa actua, yung blockings mo, yung linya mo, yung mapagalitan ng director, at mareject sa mga gusto mong proyekto. Sinasabi ko sa sarili ko na someday magagawa ko rin ng mataas yung kumpiyansa ko”
And how does it feel to that now you are already a leading man?
“Feeling ko uhm, same pa rin naman nakatapak pa din sa lupa, pero naninibago pa din syempre dahil sa expectations and sa tingin sayo ng mga tao, pero syempre nakakakaba pa din kung ano yung talagang tingin nila sayo.”
Any dream roles or projects that you want to pursue in the future?
“Sa ngayon, dito tayo sa realistic, parang gusto ko talaga mag action, action-dram, tapos gusto ko din mag horror kasi takot ako manuod ng horror di ko alam kung kaya kong panuorin yung sarili ko na natatakot, or sci fi movies”
“Gusto ko pa mag explore, madami pa kong gustong tahakingpagdating sa pelikula.”
What’s next for Kelvin Miranda after this?
“Sa ngayon nagpeprepare ako para sa gagawin isang new project sa GMA”
