The LG V50 Thinq: More Fun with Two Screens

Year 2020, Foldables are rising and so as these Dual Screen Smartphones, the need for more space in a more compact built is rising and with Microsoft releasing their first phone after 4 years, the Surface Duo. The demand for products that will give more productivity to users in a small slab of technology is also coming up.

There are already product iterations of dual screen designs, there’s the back to back screen just like in the Vivo Nex 2, there’s the foldable dual screens like the surface duo, and there’s this more portable way, giving a smartphone a dual screen accessory just like what LG did when they launched they first dual screen device, the LG V50 Thinq.

The V50 without the dual screen accessory features a 6.4 inch P-OLED screen, the Dual Screen doesn’t have the same size of the main screen as it is notch free with a 6.2 inch screen.

A Snapdragon 855 processor powers the phone with 6GB of RAM and a 128GB of internal storage.

THE PROS

Indeed having this phone is like having two phones in one, productivity in this device is maximize as you can use two or more apps with the dual screen and you can also use an app like Google Chrome and expand it to the other screen to maximize the space of the browser.

Both screens although they got different sizes are both OLED Panels that gives out the best viewing experience.

The triple camera set up of 12 megapixel wide, 12mp ultrawide, and another 12mp telephoto camera works the best as it produces best quality photos specially when it comes to the ultrawide camera.

When it comes to performance definitely the V50 is a top notch device as it gives you a smooth and lag free experience whether doing your usual social media stuff, photography, multitasking, and most specially when it comes to gaming.

Speaking of gaming you can also use the dual screen functionality to maximize your gaming experience by using the main screen as the control pad and the dual screen as the gaming screen, the V50 kinda reminds me of the PSP Vita and the Nintendo DS.

Last feature that I really liked about the V50 is the audio, it still features a 3.5mm headphone jack and

Sadly there are trade-off for this kind of device.

THE CONS

One major let down of the LG V50 is the Battery, although it is packed with a 4000 mAh of Battery, the dual screen accessory doesn’t have its own battery.

The dual screen draw its power through the main phone that it drains the battery faster than the Galaxy Fold.

Another thing that I kinda hate with the V50 is that with the Dual Screen open it is hard to use the keyboard with two hands as it doesn’t extend to the other side and the dual screen is blocking the left hand in typing comfortably and it’s a struggle to type in one hand with a 6.4 inch phone the left most part of the keyboard is hard to reach. (Though you can use it horizontally).

Last thing, this is not about the phone but about LG, we all know that LG’s mobile phone arm in the Philippines has closed already, with the limited market reach of this device I felt kinda sorry that this device will not be able to reach the shores of the Philippines in its full potential.

I know I listed some of flaws of the phone, but those are just minors. The LG V50 is one of the best phone I ever had and sadly it’s not available here officially.

THE VERDICT

I got my LG V50 Thinq online, and I think they are selling this phone really cheap for its feature. Got mine for only Php 16000 that’s less than $350 with dual screen already and at that price point I think it is  already worth it, well the only draw back I experienced with buying those Korean phones they sell online is that it still has Korean apps and features though you can hide them or translate the phone .

And also I forgot to add that the LG V50 Thinq is also 5G ready.

LG has continued to produce dual screens like the V50S/G8X and their latest phone the Velvet, but they didn’t just produced dual screen foldable phones as they recently launched a swivel dual screen phone called the LG Wing!
