Miss Philippines Sharifa Areef Mohammed Omar Akeel ended the 25 year drought of the Philippines in the Miss Asia Pacific International after she won the crown at the 50th year of the pageant held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
Akeel, who hailed all the way from Sultan Kudarat was a front runner not only in Mutya ng Pilipinas, but also in the 50th Miss Asia Pacific International, she is the fifth Filipina to win the crown the last one to win the crown was Michelle Aldana back in 1993.
Placing as first runner up is Miss Brazil Gabriela Palma (The reigning queen was also from Brazil), placing second runner up is Miss Costa Rica Melania Gonzales, third runner up is Miss Mongolia Misheelt Narmandakh, and fourth runner up is Miss Venezuela
