The young guns of Mapua showed a very promising start for the Cardinals as they beat the JRU Heavy Bombers 72-60 in their home court at the Jose Rizal University Gymnasium.
The Cardinals opened up the match in control, dominating JRU in the opening period 25-14, moving to the second period the Heavy Bombers chased down the lead of Mapua to end the first half 31-34.
Mapua bounced back to open the second half with pushing their lead up 38=31, though JRU was able to cut the lead down to a 47-52 at the end of the third. But in the final period the Cardinals were able to maintain their lead to keep the Heavy Bombers at bay.
Laurenz Victoria and Warren Bonifacio teamed up for the Cardinals with 11 and 10 points respectively, RJ David and Jed Mendoza gave 12 and 11 points for the Heavy Bombers.
