Review: Our Mighty Yaya

Our Mighty Yaya

Starring: Ai Ai Delas Alas

Directed By: Jose Javier Reyes

Genre: Comedy, Drama

Our Mighty Yaya revolves around the character of Virgie (Delas Alas) who is a 50 year old probinsyana who was forced to work as a Yaya in Manila to support her family especially his son Jonel (Drew Alvarez).

Virgie didn't know that she will be working for a well known family of a rich businessman named Tonichi Sevilla (Zoren Legaspi), there Virgie met Tonichi's three kids Marla (Sofia Andres), Kevin (Lukas Magallano), and Peachy (Alyson McBride) and their step mom Monique (Megan Young).

The family didn't welcome Virgie warmly as the three kids were too attached to their late mom and they are frightened by their step mom, but little by little Virgie was able to catch the kids affection making Monique envious about it. Will Yaying Virgie stay longer in the Sevilla's? Or will she go home empty handed in her province?

I was able to read the story of "Our Mighty Yaya" before I watched it and it was actually good. It was well written and well composed, from the plot to conflicts the story was very relatable. The only problem I had when I was reading the story is that, first,  if the story was executed well in the movie and second was if they were able to keep the flow of the story in the movie. Both of these questions were answered when I finally able to watch the movie and it didn't disappoint me, the movie was really good, "Our Mighty Yaya" will touch your heart and will make you laugh at the same time, it is a comedy movie with a heart and a decent story line.

The movie uses humor that has a taste and not just for the sake of making the audience laugh as it sticks to the core of the story which is giving importance to the nanny's and even every mother out there. The mixture of comedy and drama was just right as it was able to deliver the message of the movie clearly and on point to the audience.

Ai ai Delas Alas delivered a great performance in this movie, She was able to portray the character of Virgie full of innocence and hilariousness that left us loving the character more. I actually felt I was watching the old Aiai that we saw in her Tanging Ina movies. Well, I guess this kind of movies are her forte.

The support cast were actually good, Megan Young's acting stood out in this movie, the two kids Alyson and Lucas did really well, and even the characters of Divine Aucina and Beverly Salviejo and the other nanny's were all good.

I believe that Direk Joey and Aiai were able to redeem themselves in this movie, coming from that 2015 movie that many ranted on I guess this one was a good comeback for the two.

All in all "Our Mighty Yaya" is worth watching specially this coming Mother's day, this is the perfect treat for your Yaya's and a good bonding movie with your moms. This is a good movie, light, funny, and heartwarming, The movie is coming to cinemas starting May 10! From Regal Films.
