The new criteria for the selection is based on 40% Story, audience appeal, and overall impact, 40% Cinematic Appeal, 10% Global Appeal, and 10% Filipino Sensibility. The MMFF 2016 movie selection committe is composed of Nicanor Tiongson, Ping Medina, Lawrence Fajardo, Mae Paner, Atty Trixie Cruz Angeles, Allan Allanigue, Joy Belmonte, and Krip Yuson.
